So here is a new idea for a quiz.

You make a statement, which people needs to answer whether they will do the action you indicated. They also need to answer the question, "why" or "why not" with a fact. Not just an obvious statement such as, "No, because it is dangerous" or similar.

Example (a bit silly  ):

Will you be brave enough to step in between a sleeping elephant cow's hind legs and drink from her teets?

No, because her teets are between her front legs.

You see the beautiful red fruits of the Num num bush. Breaking it open you see the white sap. Will you eat this fruit?

Yes, the fruits are edible and the local peoples make jam from them. So, I'd eat them with glee.

You and your friend are hiking in a private reserve in Gauteng when you get separated for a few minutes. Suddenly, you hear your friend calling for help. You rush over and he tells you that he has been bitten by a snake on his leg, but has no idea which one it was. Knowing that it will take well over half an hour to summon help, you immediately rip a 2-inch strip of cloth from your shirt and tie it around his leg just above the bite, and tightly enough to pool most of the blood behind the bite wound. Then you rush off for help.

Later in the hospital, you ask the trauma doctor (who happens to be that rare medic who is also a snake expert) if you did the right thing under the circumstances. What is his most likely reply and why would he say what he did?

He promptly gives you a whack for almost costing the patient his leg.

He tells you that you should rather have used the strip of fabric like a bandage. You should have wound it around the leg from above the bite mark all the way down towards the foot. It should not have been too tight, though still firm. Not stopping the blood flow. This would have restricted the spread of the venom, which spreads mostly through the lymph fluid, without cutting off the blood flow.

:funny:

Very interesting, I had no idea about the lymph fluid, that is a bit reassuring. Of course it would be expected that people do carry an emergency kit with them every time they go out in the bush, I have to admit that I have been out on nature walks up in the hills several times without doing so, now that I think about it, a bit blazé of me.

So when it comes to someone who has forgotten the emergency medical kit at home and has no form of elasticated bandage, my source states as follows: Avoid tourniquets unless the bite is from a Black Mamba or Cape Cobra, (it's a pity the victim in this case has no idea) in the case of highly venomous snakes an arterial tourniquet may be life saving, especially if medical help is far away.

The tourniquet consisting of a belt or any other type of clothing should be applied as soon as possible, above the knee, arm, or elbow, depending on the position of the bite. However, it should not be left on longer than 30 minutes, at most an hour at a time without being loosened for a few seconds at a time. Tourniquets can cause severe tissue damage and should only be used if absolutely necessary.

Good answer Imberbe!

You are a ranger and you are mean. You have your elephant tail hair bangle and your lion tooth necklace to prove it. You are tanned brown under your broad rimmed hat and you are afraid of nothing!

So, taking your European guests on their first bush walk, you decide to impress them. Soon your first opportunity arise!

You see the boss of a buffalo glistening in the sun. The boss covers the whole head and those magnificent horns can be seen draping down. She is blissfully asleep in a shady spot. You decide to approach her, and milk her to impress your guests!

Why is this a bad idea?

It is a bad idea as it may be the last thing he ever attempts to milk  :? Added to the fact that it might be very difficult to locate the correct apparatus for milking in that by the description he is about to make a male buffalo very unhappy

Only bulls develop large, impressive bosses on their heads coupled with larger, thicker horns.

And would it be very unusual for a female buffalo to be on her own?

Agree. Always a bad idea to try and milk a buffalo bull. Except for the one who cost R18 million?
