I have always included Skukuza in my many years of visiting Kruger.
Love the choice of roads around, and close proximity to my favourite place, Lake Panic.
However, I do think the units are tired. I have had units that aren't well maintained, and complaints go unattended and unanswered. Wish they would improve the state of the showers, but I just get on with it and don't let it spoil my stay.
During the day it can get busy, but hey, I'm never there during the day so it doesn't bother me.
I have never found it too noisy at night either.
Also enjoy sitting at the river.
For those who haven't stayed there, a visit to the library/museum is very worthwhile.

Morning,

I was wondering if it is possible to book a specific safari tent in Skukuza prior to arrival? If so, what would be the best one to book and how do I go about booking it? I already have the reservation for 4 nights, was just hoping to try get the 'best' tent!

Thanks!

Hi Snor,

Yes, it is possible to try and reserve a specific # it is not guaranteed but if possible they will usually try and do it.

I usually either phone, send a fax, or e-mail the camp around 2 to 3 weeks prior to my visit.

Unfortunately many of the e-mail addresses have not been updated and are no longer valid so folk are having a problem using that method. :?

I have not stayed in any of the tents there before but have a look at the Map and you will see the ones nearest the fence.

Good Luck and enjoy!

We stayed at #316 which was not to bad,
Although # 312 looked onto the perimeter fence at
about 3 meters if not less ( Both are 2 sleepers)

Good Morning Snor,

i can only recommend tent 313. We stayed there in April and it was great. The braai is very close to the fence and in front of your tent is a hyena path. As soon as there is meat on the braai it is only a matter of time until the first hyena sneaks out of the bush.

For a reservation email Cedric Khoza. He is the Front Office Supervisor at Skukuza and can do reservations. All you need is your reservation number and the tent number you would like to book.

Hi Guys

As always I find this forum to be full of great advice and friendly people, so hoping to find an answer to my question.

On Sunday night my wife and I will be in Skukuza, and it also happens to be our wedding anniversary.

Are their any "nice" restaurants there?
Or anything else I might want to consider?

I assume the restaurants will have some sort of nice view, so I'll happily phone and book if there are tables that have "superiour" views.

Thanks in advance.

It may be a little too late, but the best thing you could do is to arrange a bushbraai of course. It's a bit more expensive, but....

There is also the ordinary restaurant at Skukuza. It has a terrace section which has a view over the Sabie river. That is the best option for a nice view. It is rather public, but not too busy at night.

Thanks for the advice.

I did some digging regarding Selati and the reviews have been a mixed bag.

I think if the Normal Restaurant has a great view, that will be better.

At the end of the day it's not the really the food or the price that matters, but simply having a good time.

Would I need to book to find a table on the terrace?

The Selati restaurant was done up completely recently, with a new menu, so older posts probably give you a wrong picture....

The best to do is scout out the location and after deciding the where simply ask for the manager. Explain the situation and request that table at the time you want. I would be rather surprised if they do not cooperate.

I could not agree with you more Tony. We were in KNP last week and purposefully drive past Skukuza without going in and rather buy water and snacks at Afsaal or Nkhulu.

At Skukuza I would definitely go for the main restaurant with a table on the terrace overlooking the river - hopefully the weather will be good - enjoy and Happy Anniversary to you both :gflower:
