We were lucky enough to see the following mom and 2 cubs crossing the road 700m north of the Kij Kij waterhole on 14 Aug. Not sure who they are and have tried to email the Mills but my email keeps on bouncing back to me - any one know if they are still wanting photos of the cheetahs or is the study finished? Anyone know who these cheetahs are? That is why I was asking earlier if Durbyl had a collar because I initially thought it was her.....but she does have a collar and this one doesn't...... :hmz:

In November there were a number of "families" of cheetahs on the Auob side, including 2 brothers, a mom w/ 4 cubs, a mom with 2 cubs, and a mom with 1 small cub. I'm interested to find out if anyone has any information on the small cub. His mom has the collar with the very prominent antennae sticking up. The cub was limping, but trying its best to keep up with mom, but the last time we saw the mom, she was calling and walked a number of kilometers, but the baby never showed up. Any info. would be most appreciated.(Will try to upload a photo if I can remember how.)

Hi AFRICAT! When exactly did you see the limping cub? As anne-marie said, it's Elena's only remaing offspring and another mite reported on the Recent Sighting Thread that she had seen the cub on the 15th November, but Elena on her own on the 17th November. We are currently waiting for Kgalagadi Guru to report back whether the cub is still alive or not. He's trying to catch up with Gus Mills to get the info. But if you saw the cub after the 17th that would be a glimpse of hope already. I saw the two of them on the 25th and 26th October and the cub was already limping then...

We first saw the cub on Oct. 16 and it was not limping. Then on Oct. 24th it wasn't limping at all as it crossed the road, but then started to limp after walking thru the bush aways. Elena made a kill on Nov. 11 and the cub hobbled across the road and up the dune to join its mom. That's the last I saw it, and Elena was calling and walking quite far on Nov. 18, without the cub. Sad.

I don't want to prophesy doom, but Elena on her own on the 17th and on the 18th does take some hope. :(
