Hi mites,
Just back home from kruger after 3 days trip. Sightings were in plenty in south. BIG 5 on first day was overwhelming. On second day we decided to head off towards satara from skukuza (may be a wrong choice we made).
Not a single soul we saw on H12 skukuza satara rd via orpen dam. No animals on a big patch of 55kms. Not even the guranteed sightings of impalas :)
Can anybody tell me if the patch is always dead. Was too disappointing and took a LSabie from the orpen dam.
Please share your experiences.
Thanks. R

Hi Rakesh

Welcome to the forums.

I have travelled the H1-2 a lot and have had lovely sightings on it. But a times it has been very quiet. The area around Leeupan usually has ots of game. I have seen lion elephant and huge herds of buffalo on this road. Ground hornbills are also a frequent sigting on this raod
The H1-3 just north of Tshokwane has lots of game. There are 2 waterholes/dams just North of Tshokwane that at this time of the year always have lions and lots of general game.

I have hit the H1-3 first thing in the morning, and last thing in the afternoon, and also like 4 hours after gate opening :)
The area near the Southern Most baobab is known for a leopard! there is a leopard there in that area that people have seen often
Yesterday there was a cheetah sighting on the H1-3 at kumana dam
The day before, there was cheetah on the s33 - a dirt road going west from Tsokwane. So the area is good at the moment

When I drove a good section of the H1-3 in June, it was also pretty dead. uncharacteristic. but the bush goes through these cycles where the aMiNals cluster around a certain area :D

To be honest, most of Kruger is 'dead' during the heat of the day (9h00 - 15h00).

All roads have potential, and maybe you were just unlucky. I have driven the LS - SKUK highway and seen a few impala and a kudu, so it can happen anywhere.

BTW, I saw 4 leopard on 'your' road last trip.

Hi bush baptist,
Very true. Unfortunately we were driving at 11am in the morning to reach Satara (where we never reached).
Can we get out at the tablet on that road?

Rakesh, it used to be a get out point, but lions seem to like it as well, so it is no longer a view point.
