Hi Chickadee!

All electric gadgets including the cam run on a generator at Nossob
And that generator is switched off at night.

You gotta go there yourself to see what going on at the waterhole at night.

Or check this for a taster.

For those driving to or from Orpen gate, you can see the waterhole and cam from the road.
I have made a little pano, but could not get out of the car (obviously) so it's not a very high one. It is too wide to place as an inline photo though, so I can only give it as a link.

I would like to make a suggestion to Sanparks.
Why don't we have a new webcam at the crocodile bridge?
It is sure to be visited alot by the animals.

Why is it you cannot bring the thumbnails on to screen by clicking on them just to enlarge them a little bit ?? alan55

I suppose you mean the ones at the bottom of the page?
They are intentionally small. They show the latest highlights so you can be alerted to happenings on the cams, but are not meant as fullsize photos.
The reason for that is easy. Clickable thumbnails are in fact loaded in full size, and shown small till clicked. That means that with every page requested the fullsize photos would be served by the server. And that means an amazing amount of traffic, which costs money. (10 million pages are served per month!)

What do you think about the idea of more webcams at more waterholes in Kruger National Park. For instance at the lowersabie waterhole?

They can even put more webcams at the other national parks. I think that it would be interesting to see what is happening there.

What happens it the Poachers get caught on these webcams?

I need some info please.

More cams, unfortunately, will not be a possible in the foreseeable future, Cheree.

Also if you know about something spectacular that happend in the Kruger National Park please let me know and sent pictures.

Although not for Kruger, but for the purpose of promoting the smaller SANParks we have currently a project up and running to get a mobile webcam that is supposed to be moved through said parks.

What is a webcam?

Is it a static camera set up at specific points?

If so, why are people sending in their pics??

I know there's an easy explanation, so please pardon my ignorance...??

First of all huntsman. Welcome to the Forum and the wonderful world of SANParks webcams I hope you enjoy the forum

A webcam is a camera that broadcasts it's images onto the web, people with internet access watch the cams and lot's of them love to post the pictures that the cams transmit(SANParks doesn't save the transmitted images)
Two cams are located in KNP, one at Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park(Nossob) and one at Addo Elephant National Park they are all static but we are trying to get a mobile webcam that will be going to different locations in different Parks.

I think vinkie covered the cam part very well , and now to adress the part of people putting up their own pics, so here at sanparks the users like to see other people trips and admire their pictures, or learn from them, so we share with each other, but its nothing to do with the webcams, its seperate, unless, if you go to the webcam section of the forum, you can find screenshots of webcam sightings uploaded by users like yourself.
