What is it like to stay in safari tents this time of year?I am talking about being winter and being cold during night.

Certainly colder than in hutted accomodation ... there is practically no insulation in the safari tents and plenty of gaps for wind to get in , temperatures as low as freezing point have regularly been recorded in the southern KNP .

Now that sounds really appealing :D

I asked the same question some time ago - sorry, I don't know how to post a link  The thread was called "Safari tents in winter", you should be able to find it when you do a search. I got some useful replies and plan to bring warm pyjamas, socks and a hat. Can't wait  !

Being winter, it could be cold at night.

They provide extra blankets. Take a beanie and somebody to keep you warm.

Half the price of a bungalow + bush like feel!
Worth it

I stayed in Safari tents in Tamboti, Croc Bridge and Lowers Sabie a week ago and was only cold in CB. Take a hot water bottle and use the electric blanket and you will be fine.

They are awesome to stay in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The wonders of technology. An electric blanket must rate very high up. Especially in KNP tents in winter.

Yes indeed 8)

(to be fair Tamboti was quiet. The only noises that penetrated the air was animal noises! 8) )

@ Joao. The electric blanket was for the SO's side of the bed  . I was quite happy with a good old fashioned hot water bottle.

@ Ndloti. I so agree. In an ideal scenario I would love there to one day be more bungalows then safari tents but I know they don't suit everyone.

@ Cheetah: and if the wind picks up. At one stage I thought I would wake up staring at the milky way instead of the tent ceiling. It howls through the gap between the tent and the second layer. I dug it though... was pretty cool.

That sounds cool to me as well. I love adventure and the unexpected. The usual can be so boring.
