Sorry Elzet, you are right, I should have indicated that.

There were 2 mammals.

Interesting question!

Seeing as as you are talking of sunset, maybe bats? when the first exit their roost they communicate with one another in a range audible to us?

There is really no hard and fast answer. However there are specific noises that are made that would alert an interested observer to the presence of a predator, even if that predator could not be seen by us humans. So what noises, and what mammal would make them and what do they sound like, in general?

Retract the jackals. Me thinks it is hyena.

Giggles are made by submissive individuals at a (possible) kill waiting their turn while being chased away by higher ranking animals.

Found this great link re hyena calls: http://www.acoustics.org/press/155th/theunissen.htm

Retract. Now I think that it is warthogs being ambushed on their way to their den. :slap:

The warthog also has sounds that are used for alarm. Two examples of these sounds are growl-grunt and a high squeal.

I have covered almost the full range of Mamalia.  :slap: Sorry...

 Isn't it nice to sit back and "watch" what develops.

Now, are you going to start on the birds or should we get a new question up and running? :D

OK, Ndloti was correct with the baboon, impala and monkies.

Next question?

Which bird call can easily be confused with a ground hornbills call ?
(The call is usually heard at dawn , so those who dwell in large camps may not hear it unless on a daywalk .)
