I saw 2 in the space of a month! One near Crocodile Bridge, and the other near the Gormondwane loop/Duke road junction south of Lower Sabie.

I saw two Aardvarks on separate night drives - but not in Kruger :(

They are amazing amazing animals to see - I nearly "wet" myself when they crossed the road in front of the vehicle...

The pics were taken in Marakele - on the Tsessebe Loop. :D

My Mammal Guide states that in winter, these mainly nocturnal animals may start foraging in the late afternoon because on very cold nights termites (their main food source) go very deep underground.

We camped in Bontle for four nights and Friday night was extremely cold - the temperature dropped to -2.6 degrees! At least that was the reading on the temperature gauge when I got up at seven on Saturday morning.

We actually saw two Aardvarks that afternoon. We had just turned into the Tsessebe Loop when I spotted two large pink ears above the grass. "Scrubhare" I said and could not believe my eyes when checking through the binocs! This one disappeared very quickly down a culvert. We sat there for a long time trying to spot it again without success. We drove on, extremely excited and at the same time extremely disappointed for not getting a photograph. Less than a kilometre further - lo and behold - another one, in the open, right next to the road and not bothered about us at all!!

We took dozens of photographs and sat with it for a long time. Only after it crossed the road in front of us and started disappearing into the grass again, two other cars arrived and they did not even seem interested!
