Its only about 2 months till I (hope to) get to my springtime campsite , no neighbours , lots of "bosveld TV" viewing .

2 elephants is a crowd , my friend woke me from a nap I was enjoying on my chair , he took the pic standing a distance behind me uncertain whether to look for the car keys or to climb a tree .

When the elephant came yet closer I gently patted my thigh to tell the visitor the site was occupied , the elephant obliged , as I have experienced previously in similar circumstances .

No , I was between them & the elephant all the time untill it moved off .

This one also looked in about an hour earlier .

We had regular visits , this from the other side .

A rhino arrived one evening at dusk , a short while later what I firmly believe was a Pels owl overflew while we were dining .

I spent 5 days up at Royal Natal during the October school holidays. I did a gentle walk to lookout Rock (nothing gentle about climbing 2km, the last km being very steep), Gudu Bush and Faerie Glen, just to find out how unfit I actually am. I also did the obligatory Tugela Gorge walk. I love that walk. I wanted to do the Crack and the Mudslide but bad weather and fitness levels put paid to that. I think climbing to the top of the Amphitheatre maybe a thing of the past. Even via the chain ladders.

I am still using the same old camping equipment, that being my Campmor Canvas travel tramp dome tent, 360° Gazebo, thermoelectric Coleman fridge and all the other gadgets. Hiked in Solomon trail runners, the most comfortable shoes I have recently worn.

I used my 35litre K-Way Pathfinder daypack on the walks. This pack is no longer manufactured. I am looking to buy a friend a new backpack as a gift. Any ideas?
