I haven´t heard of a dark spot beneath the ear before - so thanks for the info, Toko.

But what about the four points mentioned in my guidebook?

I'm sorry, for some strange reason the last three of the links don't seem to be working anymore; they were, however, working when I wrote my inquiry last night; anyway I've gone the extra way and started to put them up on youtube

blesboks?

common duiker?

grey duiker?

young male bushbuck?

thanks

seems like I was spot on myself with the guesses on 1, 3 and 4, so where is the thumps-up for me, Richprins? :D

however, with number 2, I think we misunderstood each other: I know there is a springbok at the very beginning (an editing mistake of mine), however, if you move to ca. 10 seconds, there's another antelope right next to the springbok, this one is a little bit bigger, much darker and has a white patch between his eyes and mouth - certainly no springbok!?

That little guy is a Springbok, just a melanistic springbok. Melanism is when the black pigment dominates and the animal is almost pure black

I always thought melanism is the opposite; for example I once saw a pure white African buffalo...

interesting

That would be Leucism where dark pigment is absent and the animal is almost white in color, but the eyes and legs are still dark

I've checked the mammal list as published in the "Official Information Guide" and, looking at the colour and size of this size, came up with only one possible conclusion: common duiker - correct?

spotted on the Upper Dune Road, KTP, about a month ago

thanks

at first I thought so, too - but don't you think it looks too big for a steenbok, especially at the end, when it's running away?

Yup Steenbok. The ears are a dead give away. Grey Duiker would be much bigger than this guy and the head of the Duiker is a little longer in profile
