Hi All

Although I have a phobia I would hate to see snakes harmed. I know that normally they would want to get out of our way. So I do consider myself blessed(?) to have seen so many. I am off again in June to Kruger (My favourite place) so I look forward to whatever I see. The bush is a wonderful place and I just love the smell, the sounds, the Birds and all the little creatures too. I forgot to mention too our luck on that same sunset drive we saw 5 porcupines at different places.

Thanks everyone

Oh that's a minor detail that can easily be forgotten
Never heard of 5 different Porcupine sightings during one drive before, that's pure magic  Where did you do the drive if I may ask? Lower Sabie or Croc Bridge?

We were also surprised to see so many snakes over easter. We saw two mozambique spitting cobras (both of them having an argument with some birds). One python crossing the road. A puff adder resting in the road.
We also saw a black mamba crossing the road. We reversed to take a photo, but it "jumped backward" very quickly into the bush. It happened so fast, I didn't realise that snakes could move like that! I can definitely see why they are so dangerous.

We were in Orpen after the Easter weekend and we saw a juvenile Boomslang in the vegetation just outside the entrance to the shop. The Orpen workers showed it to us and said many visitors passed it at close proximity on the way to the shop. The workers called it a green mamba.

Amazing sightings

Seems to me with all these recordings of sightings during Easter, that the snakes was on a "Easter Bunny" hunt.... :hmz:

saw a whole bunch of puff adders inside LS camp about two weeks ago....from what Irving told me, they let them stay inside the camp as long as they don't get too close to human congregations (like the shop, reception, restaurant or accomodation areas)

yeah, was news to me as well; later on the night drive we saw one of the employees releasing a puff adder near sunset dam - this one had obviously crawled too close to the shop area

We saw this little cobra (about 30 cm long) at the turn-off to the Transport Dam. It was quite agressive.

I have also never seen a snake in any of the Sanparks

But I can just imagine how fantastic a sighting it must be!!!

Great thread

I saw this Puffadder on the S125 dirt road near Satara in May this year. As I stopped to take his photo he struck out at my car's wheel.
