I've just returned from the KTP (in fact arrived home in Bloem 2h ago and I am already back on the forum to check out the messages) and this was my experience:

On Apr 28 we had a minimum temp of 2 degree in TR and my car's windscreen was iced (had to use warm water to get rid of the ice). The maximum went to 16 degree that day. The next day we experienced 31 degrees and the next day 39 degrees around Nossob, Bitterpan and Kalahari tented camp. The minimum temp was around 12-14 degrees for both days.

And we experienced the worst electrical storm of my life in Mata Mata over the weekend - luckily most of the activities were over Namibia - seems like only the edge of the storm went over Mata Mata. Lighting every 1 sec (I counted them). Maybe the guys in the camp can give more info.

Just to give you an idea.

Enjoy the trip - I'll be back in the park on May 29 for another 9days and I'll bring nice warm PJ's, I did experience that cold front in TR.

Not sure if I've already posted on this thread, but here are some stats from last year. As WillemK mentioned real rollercoaster temp this time of the year in KTP

Could the -30 be correct. That must have been a very cold morning in a tent.

Pretty sure it is a mistake, -12 is the lowest I have ever heard for 2R.

Also, some of the highs for summer look a bit low. We have had 46.

The lowest temp recorded in South-Africa was -18.6 dec C at Buffelsfontein in the Molteno district, EC and not Sutherland as one would thought.

I agree the info above on Twee Rivieren look a bit off. I found another website, hopefully more reliable than the first called http://www.wunderground.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The lowest temperature according to this site for TR for June 2010 was -8 degC and for July 2010 -7 degC.

The highest recorded since Dec 2009 at Twee Rivieren was 44 deg C. A bit closer to your 46 deg C then.

THanks for the info Sg, the -12 and 46 were not last year, but -8 & 44 are 'challenging' enough.

We have had 1 day -1 Degrees last week and it is still getting colder by the day. Rain has still not shown any sign of disappearing as we have had rainstorms now 4 days in a row and it seems that we might have more rain tonight.

It appears from the webcam that it has rained regularly since Friday ?

Yip..The rain is still with us (not that we complain), but it does make game viewing a bit more difficult. As soon as I receive the rainfall stats I will post them.

Can we make a braai at night at 18:00 or is it just to cold. End June to early July?

We have visited KTP many times in the winter. Make no mistake about it it can get very cold in the evenings. Lighting a braai is a must..it keeps you warm. We have experienced -8° c but as long as you are prepared for the cold then it is not too much of a problem. The winter days can be very pleasant.
We have had some of most awesome sightings during the winter months....I find the animals are a lot more active during the day because it is not so hot. You will miss the summer visiting birds though as well as many of the insects, moths and butterflies. There are still many resident birds that you will see though. Snake sightings are not always so plentiful either. We have had many bat-eared fox as well as cape fox sightings during June/July. I actually quite enjoy the park during the winter months ( even though the water can freeze in the pipes)

Make sure the fire is on before the darkness and start putting on extra clothes before getting cold.
Around sunset we always experience an extra cold time. When darkness is settled in it feels more comfortable, but perhaps this is all in our minds
And yes we had some great sightings in june/july too!

Sorry to hijack but what evening/night temps are we likely to have beginning of Sept in KTP?

last september (begin) only KK was a little bit colder because of the wind and we had to wear a sweater in the evening/night, all the other evenings t shirt / polo was fine
