These were seen on the S3 near Pahbeni gate in July 2006, thought they were mating but they were ripping each other to shreds (not literally of course) so it might be fighting between two males??

Hi everyone!
Could you please help me? Is that a Nile Monitor?

Image

This huge monitor was about 1 1/2 meter long! We saw him on the way to Shingwedzi Camp.

Thank you!

See you in Kruger 2010!
Karin

We came across this Water Monitor on the S30 in Kruger last month that had had its tail bitten off, we can only assume it was by a Crocodile?

twigga that is a rock monitor.
They are sometimes also called tree monitor, although I have no idea why because water monitors often sit in trees as well.

I have also seen many rock monitors in Kruger with missing tails.

Did You Know ?
The Water Monitor is up to 3 meters long, and is the second largest monitor lizard in the world.
