The dam is Kariba and the river is the mighty Zambezi, so there is either no way for him to cross or it is too far to the other side? :wall:

Elzet, just clear something up. You are referring to a dam where the hunter like to hunt, but then you say that he shoots on the eastern side of the river. Do you mean that he likes to hunt on the eastern side of the dam, or is it part of the riddle?

Ooops - apologies.

There was an avid hunter who enjoyed hunting around a dam near his farm. He always hunted on the eastern side of the river that flowed into said dam, where wild animals were not abundant. However, the western side was filled with wild animals, easy hunting grounds. So why does the hunter avoid the western side?

OWN, not a bad deduction. Could have been correct, but not what I am looking for.

He is a sheep farmer, so he prefers the side that has few wild animals. The "domestic" side of his farm he only uses to hunt leopards and other predators that threaten his sheep? :hmz:

The western side is not his property, or
He is also a conservationist and would like to keep the western side as a breeding place for animals, or
He doesn't have a boat to cross the river, or
He is afraid of water.

Maybe he did not 'hunt' wild animals, but new species of plants/insects or similar?

I must applaud you all!   Good job, and yes, any excuse would do.

The initial riddle indicates a fisherman, not fishing on the other side.

The 'correct' answer is that his country is at war with the country on the other side of the river. But as you have all indicated, there is obviously a plethora of possibilities.

Such as his MIL lives on the other side of the river. Or his ex. Or his wife's ex.

Four people are standing on one side of a bridge. The bridge is dangerous to cross and can only support two people safely at a time. It is dark and there is only one torch, which must be carried by one person at all times.

- The first person can walk quickly across in 1 minute.
- The second person limps and can only cross in 2 minutes.
- The third person has a twisted ankle and can cross in 5 minutes.
- The fourth person has plaster of paris on her leg and can only cross in 10 minutes.

No matter how fast a person can cross, she must wait for her companion.

What is the fastest time that it takes for all four people to cross the bridge?
