Question D - The term ' Lophodont' does not apply so (i)is the answer

reading bout teeth again it seems that Hypsodont teeth can be broken in to two types o teeth Selenodont and Lophodont.
Selenodont - found in the Artiodactyl which includes camels, members of the deer family, antelope and cattle
Lophodont - found in the Perissodactyl which includes horses, rhino and tapir

Then the Bunodont teeth are found in animals which have a very varied or omnivorous diet and this includes humans.

The diastema definitely applies to Buffalo

I am out in the bush doing some research for my MSc so I have limited connectivity, but I'll post the answers so long - please post any questions and I will answer them when I get home on Sunday. I will also post definitions to all the terms I have used so that we can all learn! Will also post the scores on Sunday as it is a bit difficult to work it out now.

Hope this is all okay with all of you?

A) iii - 32 teeth
B) iv - well developed diastema
C) i - 26 teeth
D) iv - bunodont
E) Selenodont

Here are some simple terms:

Jaw articulation - can be lateral (herbivores for chewing) or vertical (carnivores for biting down).

Diastema - the space between incisors and cheek teeth, well developed in most herbivores as they lack canines, not very developed in carnivores.

Bunodont - teeth with seperate cusps covered with enamel (all carnivores).

Sectorial - cusps pointed and blade like for cutting (all carnivores)

Brachydont - low crowned (carnivores)

Carnassial tooth - last upper premolar and first lower molar, specialised for shearing (self sharpening) (carnivores)

Lophodont - separate cusps and no solid covering of enamel on occlusal surface giving the appearance of a rough surface (herbivores)

Hypsodont - high crowned and often open rooted so they can continue to grow when worn down by chewing (herbivores)
