It is 27km from the main Addo camp to Narina. A gravel road. Have you seen Narina bush camp.

Just returned from 2 days in Narina Bush Camp with the family and thought others may be interested in a bit of info I could not find before I went there.
Narina Bush Camp is outside the main Addo Camp in the Zurberg Mountains and takes at least 35 mins drive (with normal car on a dirt road which was in good condition) to get to the Main camp to see the elephant and other wildlife. One can not just 'pop in' to see the animals. Rather go then to the Main Camp.
The camp is very well cared for by the ranger there and has beautiful setting with 2 natural pools so one can swim and cool off. Altho there is no electricity, petroleum lighting is provided at night around the camp tho it is useful to take a torch. There is no way of charging phones or camera batteries - it is a bush camp. The tents and beds are very comfortable, the large fridge works well and cooking facilites and utensils all provided and plenty of wood for the camp fire in the bouma.
It should be noted that the camp is ideal for a group of friends or family but a single couple could feel a bit lonely unless that was the plan. Nobody else will be there. According to the guestbook, overseas tourists don't seem to realise this and think that there will be up to 8 people booked into the camp. A great place for peace and nature, walks, a good book, a braii and a relaxing time. :clap: Will definately go again, a great place just to chill

I cannot find any feedback on this Addo Camp in the forum? Has anybody visited this camp recently and how was the experience? Is it quite safe?

I'm sure other visitors will post their comments but Narina bushcamp is a great place to go if you want some peace and quiet away from everyone else. It is situated at the foot of the Zuurberg mountains in the forest and on the banks of a river, where you can take a dip. There are no Big 5 animals in this area. Lots of birds can be heard and seen and animals such as bushbuck, bushpig, duiker etc. occur in the forest.

There is a ranger stationed at the camp for any emergency and to clean up the terrain. He has his own quarters a short distance from the camp. Firewood is provided.

There is an open kitchen area with gas fridge, stove plates and a gas skottel (large frying pan). cooking and eating utensils are provided.

You can get there by car but will need to drive slowly over parts of the gravel road leading to the camp if you have a normal vehicle. The last 500m to the camp must be done on foot and you have to cross a small bridge so its not suitabel for frail/very elderly people and you should get there well before dark. There are solar power lights but its a good idea to have a flashlight. No electricity.

We have just spent the long weekend at Narina Bush Camp in Addo and I thought I would give some comments on our experience and answer some questions I had before we went.

The information that Megan gave in the previous post is very accurate.

You first have to book in at Addo's main camp reception. They will give you a map and GPS location. The directions are very good. Look out for the signage for the Police Training facility which you drive by on your way to Narina bush camp. Most of the gravel road is in very good condition and you can drive it with a sedan, but the last 2Km can be rough surface, so drive very slow. The bush camp has no through traffic and is very secluded. You have to arrive before sunset because from the parking area you cross the river over a footbridge and then walk about 400m through the forest to the camp. The Ranger is very helpful and they have a wheelbarrow to assist with the heavy luggage.

The bush camp is a perfect little hide away. The rangers keep the area very clean and tidy. The 4 canvas tents each has 2 single beds with linen, blankets and towels provided.

The kitchen has everything you will need. A two plate gas stove, eating utensils, plates, stainless steel mugs, wine goblets and glasses, Cadac gas skottel, 4 sizes pots, large kettle, grater, braai tongs, etc. The gas fridge/freezer works very well. In case of a rainy day the kitchen area has enough open space for all the people to sit with plenty to spare.

The braai area has a braai grid and shovel with wood provided. Our ranger already had the fire burning when we arrived back at the camp from the day trips in the afternoon, which was wonderful.

The shower has running water and hot water is made by a paraffin geyser gadget and worked very well to supply all 8 with hot water any time of the day. There is a clean flush toilet.

Electric solar lights are provided in each tent, the kitchen area, braai area as well as the shower and toilet. The lights worked well, but some does not shine initially and may need some help. The lights are the only thing which I can say is not perfect, but it was not a big problem for us. The ranger can assist with the lights, but a personal torch is going to be very helpful if the light is not working and you have to go someplace quick.

The swimming pools in the river are very beautiful and the water is brrr very cold.
You have to make some time to be at camp during the day to enjoy the pools.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The owls in the trees every night and the Knysna Loeries every morning was just the cherry on the cake. I can recommend it to anyone looking for a little peace and quite.

Does this mean the Narina Camp is booked exclusively for one group only at a time? In other words, if I book only one tent, the other 3 will not be booked by Sanparks?
