I have what I consider to be a treasure chest of slides that I want to have scanned so that I can post them in various topics on the forum , in particular under People & Conservation - Wilderness Trail Tales .

Can anyone offer advice on where to have this done in Gauteng at a reasonable price and in good quality (I have had poor & costly results before when having negatives duplicated) as I think it could be a costly exercise at the "pro" shops , bearing in mind that there are upwards of about 100 slides in total that I could use in various threads .

Could answers (as in company names and the likes) please be sent by PM?
Offers to do it for him can of course be posted here. ;)

ndloti,

I'd happily scan them for you myself, but I'm a bit too far North of you! (Unless you can get them to the UK?) Have you thought of buying a scanner at all. If you have lots of slides or negatives to scan, it may be worth looking into buying one? There are some inexpensive scanners on the market if you only have a small number to scan or only want standard quality from them?

Not too expensive. Hopefully I will start the prosess over the weekend.

I will let you know how it went.

Hi Ndloti
I have bought a USB connected scanner made by Ion which can scan slides (mounted in any normal type frames, cardboard or plastic) strips of slides unmounted, strips of negatives or cut negatives all in 35mm. It has some very good software to run things and produces a good enough quality to print Jumbo size pictures. It scans at 300dpi but can interpolate to a higher figure. The cost was R800.00.

My advice would also be to buy a decent scanner
Money well spent

So we will see some walking trip images in due time
