What a lovely cheetah sighting
Was in Berg en Dal on the 2nd and third
Was lucky enough to see leopard both days

We saw these on Friday morning

Image

We spend an hour with them before they finally disappeared into the river (Near Gardenia)
The female stalked impala and crossed the road in front of our vehicle twice but the cub didn't want to follow and she had to go back

Image

After breakfast we were lucky enough to spot a black rhino

Image

The head down feeding on the ground had us fooled for a while

Sightings have been really good, I still cant believe its been a week since I was in paradise. On our last drive in the park we got really lucky and saw a pair of what I think are mountain reedbuck(after consulting all my books and the internet).. Unfortunately they were very skittish and I couldnt get to many pictures before they ran off. we saw them on the renosterpan turn off

From the 1st picture you can see the tell tale black mark under the ear and the 2nd picture is a front on picture.

Unfortunately we couldn't fill the rare antelope book out at berg en dal as we were on our way out.

Hi Spargish,

Thanks for sharing the nice pictures! However, I am not sure whether they really show a mountain reedbuck. The black mark under the ear does also occur in the southern (common) reedbuck. See some nice pictures and descriptions about the southern reedbuck in: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=10036" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The southern reedbuck is bigger than the mountain reedbuck and has a dark line down the front legs -which is absent in the mountain reedbuck. Otherwise the two species are not easy to discriminate. Without seeing the front legs I am not making a final judgement but due to the large size and the habitat shown on your pictures (mountain reedbuck occurs on dry, grass covered, rocky mountainous slopes) I would go for southern reedbuck.

For the mountain reedbuck see: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=11592" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cheers
