Thank you kamadejo for uploading pics, had someone indicating the snake to be a black mamba, can anyone else confirm.........thought I could keep it as a pet (not anymore!!!!!)

Black Mamba or not... is not a good idea to keep as a pet...

Hi liewelulu. I have to agree it does look like a black mamba, however i didnt know we had black mamba in the natal midlands? Can someone just confirm if we do get bm in the natal midlands????

It does not only look like a black mamba ... it is a black mamba. The head and mouth is a give away, more so than the body colour.

What you have there is DEADLY! Even though it still may be small it can kill you. Get it to a snake park as soon as possible and be very careful!

BM do occur in the midlands.

Gotta agree with the previous posters - definitely Black Mamba (with or without a distribution map).

...and gotta agree with anne-marie - a snake from nature belongs in nature (with or without highly toxic venom).

Many people would just panel beat the poor thing with a garden spade, but I hope that you will find a way to re-introduce it to nature some way from your (and other people's) gardens. Nonetheless - you are in a beautiful area where you obviously have some wild areas around and now you have been warned .... expect to see more, so be careful with pets and children ...... and it's not worth moving away!

Thanks to all for the information, we have introduced it back to nature (stay on a conservancy)and hope nature will show the BM another route than back here.........."it just seem so friendly at first".......LOL!!!!!!!

I was wondering if it is possible to make a young snake like that tame such as a tame lion/ cheetah so that it doesn't bite!...imagine walking around your neck with a tame 2.5 m black-mamba! :twisted:

(Real men wear black-mambas around their necks and not pythons...that is for sissy's!) :twisted:
