Oh, these most gorgeous birds, we can't resist taking pics of them.
Our latest, taken in Kruger in June.

Great shots all of you, now I have a question. Is this one sitting in a nest or just on a hole in the tree?

Not sure Sprocky.

I was lucky to see a pair at a nest very close to the Balule bridge Sept 2009:

This was not actually taken in a National Park. I took this photo, (not with a very good camera) on my sisters farm close to Thabazimbi but thought it would be apreciated. These two chicks were VERY vocal! The one was definately bigger than the other one and the parents worked over time to feed them. I do however think it's a 'Reuse Troupant' and not a 'Gewone Troupant' Sorry for the Afrikaans.

I love the idea of a Lilac-breasted Roller causing a traffic jam :P
I hope the bird broke the sting of the scorpion when he picked it up..

This beautiful bird was responsible for the death of a young German adventurer. According to a short inset in "Exploring the Kruger", the young German jumped from a wagon in his effort to shoot the bird and shot himself in the leg. He died several days later of gangrene.

Every time I see this bird in the Kruger, I think about the foolish German. So glad we have cameras to take a picture for my collection.

I must agree - these BEAUTIFUL birds always remind me of KNP. And they are always patient and willing to sit still for a :cam: !

My first pic - I actually took in KTP in July this year:

And this one I took in KNP in August this year:
