Oh -- as a PS -- in March we saw an old VW beetle rattling around on the roads as well as 2 fairly new Mercedes Coupes

The roads can be corrugated at times. Let your tyres down to about 1.6 bars, take out your dentures and get your gf to wear a sports bra and you will be ok!

Probably the information I am looking for is already available, somewhere, but I could not find it and so I am asking again:sorry about that!

What is the current (end of september) status of the TR – Kij Kij road? Is it still closed? If yes, are at least some sections of it open? I would be interested in particular to the leg from TR to Rooiputs or, at least, to Leeuwdrill.

I've just returned from the Kgalagadi. The road is open from TR to the Leeuwdril waterhole, and then closed from Leeuwdril to Kij Kij.

Thanks Dabchick, at least that is progress, and often great sightings occur on that stretch.

I agree with you BUT....Sightings are great in all parts of the park...RIGHT PLACE RIGHT TIME.

Two nights ago a pride of 6 lion were spotted just before Leeudril and it seemed they were going after some wildebeest.

What is the status of the road between Samevloeiing and Kij Kij?
This June my son drove up 10kms or so past Samevloeing, I'm not sure but I think as far as Leeuwdril.
Also, when last has leopard been spotted in the Samevloeing surrounds?

The road to Nossob Camp is only closed from Leeudril to Kij Kij. They are currently upgrading the road (re-surfacing). It might be a bit of a hassle at the moment due to it limits game drives on that stretch but it will be worth the while. I have been out to check the work going on and it looks great it will make travelling so much less bumpy (if everybody just keep to the speed limit), and NO its not where the animals are hiding, I have travelled that road a few times now and have seen general game but not the illusive predators.

I will try and find out when the road will be opening again. Just please bare in mind that with the extreme weather conditions it does make working on the road a bit difficult. Then we are expecting some rain again soon and that will also have an effect on the progress of the road, I have been on that road and the contractors are working as fast as they can. The road when its finnished will be to the advantage of the tourists and add to more comfortable driving.

The leopard at samevloeing have been spotted on a regular basis (2 days ago).

The leopard seen at Samevloeiing - I take it that this is the Twee Rivieren female? If so, any news on her surviving cub?(should be about 10 months old now)

TR to Kij Kij road - Will the contractors be stopping work and breaking up for the December holidays? If so, is there a possibility that this road will be temporarily opened for the holiday period? This would take some pressure off the existing roads during the busy period. I suppose it also depends on whether the road upgrade is up to such a stage that usage will not have too much of an impact on the work that has already been done on this road.

I have tried to get hold of the contractor, hopefully tomorrow I might have an answer regarding the road (T/R - Kij Kij), I have no idea if the contractors will be closing December although I think the might just close during the festive season, in that event the road will still be closed as the road is currently un-driveable for vehicles with all the heaps of gravel on the road surface.

Regarding the leopard and her cub.....well unfortunately I haven’t had much time to spend out ‘there’, but I will try and find out if the cub is still with her.

The major advantage with the road from Kij Kij to Leeudril (Which is under construction) will be that during the raining season the road will still be open other than in the past where it was closed during heavy rains, so it will be worth the while to wait until it opens.
