Seen on the S35 a month ago , one was shy and disappeared from view .

Found the pic of this one while going through all my pics. This one was seen July 2009 also in the region of Mopani (Tropic of Capricorn)

Hi,

Can some-one help with the identification of this chap below. After looking closer the face does not look like a typical black-back jackal. Is it a side-striped Jackal perhaps or am I wrong with the ID? :hmz:

My SO took this pic near Middelvlei north of Letaba close to a leopard sighting. We were actually looking for the leopard and spotted the jackal in the grass.

The pic below of a juvinile BBJ was taken in KTP - when comparing it to the above pic taken in Kruger one can see a difference in the snout.

SG, difficult to figure without seeing the side and tail of the animal. Do you have any other pics?
However, the muzzle is indeed more wolf-like, less pointy, while the colouring is more grey and less tan. Also, the ears seem to be more rounded. Perhaps indeed a SSJ. :hmz:

There are a few examples of them on the Satara webcam highlights.

High on my wishlist as I thought I saw one last year which turned out to be a BBJ.

Still looking though.
