Our last morning in the Karoo, heading out on our way home, we decided on one last drive round. It was early and no-one else was around and we saw it:

Image

Our first, and only, black rhino. He appeared from nowhere, posed for us for five minutes, then vanished back into the bushes. Gave us a buzz all the way to Cape Town (and further).

Another last gasp sighting this time in the Kgalagadi. Again on our last day, as we were heading on our way home we came across this just outside TR.

Image

Initially she was sitting under a tree just beside the road, so close that we could almost have reached-out and touched her. She eventually climbed the tree, where she had a kill stashed, and adopted this quintessential leopard pose for us.

Another journey home buzzed to the eyeballs.

I'm on a roll now thinking about my favourite pictures. Another from the Kgalagadi. Having stopped to eat some lunch I noticed movement in a bush and caught this little chap having his lunch on the acacia buds.

I know this photo is not perfect, needs some cropping etc, but it was a shot I could not resist.
Taken near Phalaborwa  at the Ngwenyeni waterhole, S131. A beautiful road.

My favourite photo this year was this lion cub. It was taken just at sunrise, so unfortunately a lot of grain and noise!
