Nice pics!

Just to comment on noel's contribution:

I think those may be predator-inflicted wounds...especially the first one, as these big males do duty on the outskirts of the troop etc.

Should one of them have been spotted alone or significantly removed from a troop, though, it would indicate an internal eviction, although such severe damage is pretty scarce... :|

People stop their vehicles, and the vehicles get damaged. (The Baboons are waiting for the sound of the car alarm. If they don't hear the "tweet tweet", they make for the door. While the toursits stand amazed at the vista and the view, the baboons go for the door and say, "well that doors's not locked"

Very clever hey :D

Very, very clever and sly, JJ.

RP, I agree with your observations, however, it is not unlikely that the injuries were inflicted during battles for supremacy. We've recently witnessed very aggressive behavior towards lil' ones, let alone to rivals for leadership. Still not a pretty sight, either way. :( :(

Hippo fan, just one of those sightings/situations that steal the heart.
Looking at the pic can anyone dare say animals have no feelings. As
damaging as they can be they can also be very constructive,-
emotionally. Just one look into the little d.....s eyes and I go soft in
the middle.

I know exactly waht you mean H. erectus :D When I took the shot 3 years ago, I immediately knew it would be special (was shot with film, not digital). It is still one of my favourite pictures.
