Travelling Pretoriuskop , to Numbi outside to Hoedspruit and back will be around 200 kilometers . It seems a bit longer INSIDE the park , and at 25 km to 40 km per hour ...... well :hmz: .

Sorry to rain on your parade! But what you are considering is quite impractical. Pretoriuskop to Orpen inside the park is a very long drive, and then you still have to get back! Not going to happen!

As for driving outside the park, well, yes it may be possible, but it is going to be a long tiresome day spent driving. Those roads are busy, especially around Bushbuck ridge, and the speed limit is at 80 or 60 for long stretches.

Jessica is not at Moholoholo. She is at a private place on the road leading away from Hoedspruit to Tzaneen / the Strijdom tunnel. Way past Moholoholo. There is a citrus packing house on your right hand side and a big sign board announcing Jessica, pointing to a dirt road leading of to the right.

Honestly, if you want to see Jessica, rather move your last nights booking to Orpen / Tambotie / Satara. Then you can go and say hi to Jessica on your way home. Much more practical!

Craig,

Reading Imberbe post it hit me that maybe I wasn't clear enough (thx Imberbe). It's appr. 60 km to Mohoholo. From there it will take you at least half an hour drive (part tar, part sand road) to get to Jessica. And according to my husband I broke some speeding limits to get to her

hey no raining!!!

that is the type of responses I wanted from the more informed members of the forum!

sweet well i know its a lot of driving, but my accommodation is already booked!!! and i didnt realise jessica the hippo was as close as she was, so i promised we'd go and just wana find optimal solution for travelling up there!!i see there is quite a few attractions in hoedspruit.....might just stay up there and make and afternoon of it and drive back down to pretoriuskop.....

imberbe....if i were to drive on the outside roads.....say leave at 9am to visit jessica have some lunch up there and leave at say 2pm, i could enter into the park at Phabeni gate and have a little drive before 6pm!

would u say that is feasible? i know its not the best solution but you think its possible??

thanks for the help guys!

Even if you have booked in Pkop it is possible to change one night for one further North like at Orpen or Tamboetie Just phone up Sanparks and it can be done.

Check in time is FROM 14.00 until gates close at about 18.00 Must get back into the Park well in time to get to your camp before the gates close. and dont forget the Max speed is 50 kph in the park

Whats special about Jessica anyway that is better than the wild ones in KNP :hmz:
If indeed she is very special , then surely it is worth extending your trip/visit by one extra day to drive up there to see her

Hey craigf86;

Welcome to the forum

Tambotie is unfortunately fully booked your weekend  (it's in your price range and next to Orpen)

I personally would make an excuse this time round and take the girlfriend to Lake Panic, just outside Skukuza, which is an hour away from your camp and has many wild close up hippos.
Also pop in at Skukuza - It's a cool camp for the younger generation.

You could also make it down to hippo pools next to Crocodile bridge and take a wild bush walk (free of charge) and see the hippos in the croc river. (Wait for the ranger/guide) lol.

But there's many more interesting things to see besides hippos - lions, leopards, etc. lol
