Hi All,

We did the 4x4 route close to Satara last year and saw hardly anything, I am considering taking the drive again.

Could other forumites please tell of the sightings you've had on this trail?

Thanks in advance!

Took the route in 2009 and had a truly fantastic sighting of a Lioness with three cubs. We were so close I could take full body shots with an 85mm lens. The cubs were very playful. Great experience. On the way back we took the non-4x4 route and saw what I assume were other pride members and more bubs. Very much enjoyed it but saw not too much else, so I guess luck of the draw.

So, we are back from the KNP, time went by so quickly

But to let you know

We had amazing sightings and great warm (but windy days)

We also did the 4X4 adventure trail from Pretoriuskop as the weather on the last day was terrible, and we needed something else to do

If you EVER stay there and you drive a 4X4, please take an extra day to do the trail

It was absolutely amazing. The best experience that I could have. The terrain is 4X4 valley, however, you will be able to do it with 4X2. (even I got a chance to drive my hubby’s Hilux) and I have a 14 month old son who enjoyed it so much!

The idea, of being alone in the bush, is the most awesome feeling in the world. Spending all the time you want at any given point. We saw elephant, rhino, hippos, zebra, antelope etc.

The trail is about 40km long, and takes about 6 hours.

I want to book the Satara one when we go again, has anyone been?

Sherbert, I was in P'kop with a 4x4 in April and didn't really know about this trail. Would have been good to do. Thanks for the heads up

I think SANParks will even agree with you but they insist on folk only doing to trails in 4x4's in order to do as little damage to the ecology as possible

GRAZIE

Hi minivip2001 - here is a link to more information on the 4x4 trail near Satara. It is called the Mananga Trail.

Is the Mananga 4x4 trail near Satara still open? If so, does any one know what is the cost and where can I find an online detailed map of the trail?
