It looks like they chop down the trees every now and again when they have obstructed the view - the ones in front o 38 had just been chopped down when we stayed there - thank goodness otherwise we would also not have had a view. So I think it is probably a bit of the luck of the draw. We stayed in a baisc one a couple of years ago and walked past them this time and they all seemed to havee nice views.

IMHO tent nr 22 (CTT4) has the best view of the river bed.

Some pictures of our trip to Tamboti firstly thanks to this forum decided must try this camp stayed in Nr 20 and parents in law in 33 (got the tent numbers here on the forum) stunning view from 20 must say this camp is a bit scary at night heard lions and hyena every night the last night there about 12pm heard something loud rustling making a lot of noise and woke up So he told me it is nothing they call me a scary cat so always think I exaggerate (my teenage son registered me on the forum with my nick) well very early morning runs in and tells me I was right in front of our tent was a cage and bellow will see what was in it I was not letting the Honey Badger out it was very upset went directly to Orpen and spoke to the ranger said they can be very dangerous and good thing we did not let it out they released it back in Tamboti if you want a bush experience this I think is the best my So fell in love with this place it is his favourite camp now.

The cages are put there with bait in it to catch the animals that are causing havoc in the camp... Which in our case in Dec were baboons actually ripping the tents to get to the food. The usually just release them away from the camp and hope that they've learnt their lesson.

Can't find this info, but does Tamboti have cellphone reception -- not far from Orpen?

Will be there for 3 nights in June, and again 2 more nights on the way down south. If no reception, can swap last 2 nights for Letaba or other camp. PS I don't use a cellphone in the bush, but need to keep tabs on father-in-law 2000 km away, getting a bit frail...

Thanks,

Friedrich von Hörsten

I took a little walk close to the bird hide on my last trip to Tambotie. These are a few spoor found in the soft sand.

Looks to me like a little cat like creature.

I have stayed in the luxury tent number 40 last month.
The location 10/10, its right at the end of the camp for some privacy and you have the perimeter fence right next to you... It also has a great view!

I will definitely stay there again, although the toilet wasn't working 100% on that day.. :|

Hello everyone. Just for those who do not know. You can actually see the layout of each camp in Kruger when you click on 'Availability', then Kruger', then the camp and then on the left click on map. A separate window will open where you can see the whole camp and where the tents are situated.
Here's the link for quick reference:
http://www.sanparks.org/parks/kruger/ca ... amboti.jpg

I've stayed at Tamboti couple of times and only once in the 'luxury' tents. I agree about the pull out bed. It is horrible! No one can sleep on that (not even a child). Most uncomfortable. Also, make sure when visiting these tents (hide your food in kitchen in fridge if possible). Last time we were there, we left the bread rolls on top of fridge inside the tent and found the squirrels having a whale of a time with them. They come in through the top of the roof of the tent somewhere. Oh, and yes, there is a resident leopard in the area. It is used to the area and walks close to the fence sometimes. Especially early morning and late afternoon. Be aware of the monkeys too. They are nice to look at but dangerous if you left food outside. Another small fact about Tamboti. Because of the thick bush - be aware there are snakes! I usually choose the normal two bed tents close to ablution. Too scared to walk out there at night if need be. Best camp to be close to nature though!! Love it!

Hi all,
We are in Tamboti for one night in August and require a good 2 person tent.
Which ones are good ones and how can we reserve them?

Plus we are doing the same in Skukuza if anyone knows of the better tents to stay in please PM me.....much appreciated.

thanks
john n kate

Although a CTT4 (4 bed) which is the same price as a 2 bed, # 310 was given to us (other 2 beds were all taken), and it was a great unit. It is right in the corner of the camp and next to the fence for a bit of privacy.

The tents are fine as far as I remember. It is just in the more secluded tents (the pull out couch) that is most uncomfortable. As for the leopard. I have never seen it inside the camp (I dont walk around at night), but, I've seen the leopard on 3 occassions just next to the fence OUTSIDE the camp IN THE RIVER BED. The resident troop of baboons usually sees him/her first and signals alarm calls. Therefore, you will know if the leopard is there or not. But, don't just count on the baboons. The trees around this camp is easy for the leopard to climb into and over fence. BUT, dont let this 'put anyone off'. If you are vigilent, don't walk around after dark alone, this camp is the best kept secret of Kruger. It is NOT for the feint hearted though. Keep your wits about you, and keep your ears and eyes open. I honestly feel like I am alone in the bush when staying at Tambotie, with the luxury of a tent and these tents are built on wooden stilts so it is a bit off the ground. It is an unforgetable experience to stay there.

Goafrica,

Tent 18 & 19 are both 4-bed tents and their views are great.

Just returned from 20 wonderful days in Kruger. Tamboti was very special and quiet, no baboon problems, and lovely little bush kitchen. Only problem with the place is the limited number of roads around, but saw many wonderful things in 5 days there.
Aat Vuik's 3 male lions in the tar road made my mouth water, so went looking for them. Found them early next to dirt road, and again early following morning in the tar road. Very low light, but special moments, with only 1 other car:

God bless,

MM - wasnt it close to Tamboti where you saw your pangolin - and we missed it?

One of the camps that even if full does not feel likes its crowded. Only drawback is the lack of drives around the camp - but, then again very often you dont have to drive far to see nature at work.

One other car at sighting for about half an hour.
