Melbourne Mini Meet
Crawled out of bed at 9am after a late night. OMG Moose is arriving in a couple of hours and i still had to get lunch organised.
Quickly made up the minced kebabs, salad and potatoes and as i was about to do the dishes the door bell rings .... or rather knocks. It's Moose.
The first few moments are a little awkard as we have not met before but we're quickly into familiar experiences territory of Kruger and KTP and we are talking like we've know each other for ages.
Moose plugs in her laptop and we're soon getting an insiders view (and tips) into the Kgalagadi (and how to pronounce it!). We even get to see and hear about her most recent trip to Kruger.......the one that she is currently writing. We're also taken for a photo tour of the Cheetah Outreach that Moose volunteers at....WOW! Then we're sharing our Kruger Trip with Moose and reliving our entire first timers experience (TR link is in my signature).
Oh yes somewhere inbetween "The bass" has cooked up the lunch I was supposed to be doing because I was so engrossed in the pics.
And as we sit down "the baas" says "I just bit into a bone in this minced Kebab"
to which Moose, who has finished off half her kebab" replies " me too, but i just thought it was a crunchy bit". The Baas and I look at each other in horror. "Oh no I defrosted the pet food mince by mistake" she says.
Well we have all lived to tell the tale.
After kunch we decide to brave the overcast, grey , deary Melboune day to see if we can get some lifers for Moose's Aussie list. Its a tough day for birding but we still manage 3 (Moose i think we missed counting the little black commorant besides white plumed honeyeater and black faced cuckoo shrike).
Back for a quick dinner (yep we were having so much fun that the time just flew) a quick top up of oil in Moose's car which had stated flashing an emergency light on the way to our place and the meet came to an end.
we do hope that we have you back again some time Moose and that all goes well with your move back to the UK.....till you find your way back to the place that we all love. Better still we hope we can catch up with you in Kruger/KTP...now wouldn't that be awesome.
