Sorry I know this is not an ID photo but thought they were pretty cool and cute. Also, they are from last year because I only joined recently. Sorry. :(

Trevor Butler has asked me to post this photo on his behalf:

We were in ADDO on Sunday 25th April. We saw this rather mangled Spotted Hyaena below Domkrag dam. Have any reports been sent in on it ? I wonder if it was in a fight with another Hyaena or a Lion ? It had a collar fitted.

Hi Megan,

Found three hyena's on the track that runs parallel to the Marion Baree road (from corner of the botanical to the old buffalo carcass) Bit early and dark still, so the pics aren’t great…

I spent a little time with Roy at Hapoor just before I found the hyena's... it's great to see his mane is coming on nicely. Megan and Roy were always my easy find and I havn't seen much of him lately.

Thanks Andrew. I'll pass these on to our researchers / management.

The reason you have not seen much of Roy is that he is spending time with Ardlam and has moved south. He is seen on the Colchester Road south of Marion Baree these days and then moved into Gorah. They killed what looked like a kudu on the Colchester road before the tar on Sunday.

Hi Megs,

Went thru' on Saturday afternoon for a quick jaunt around the park.
As one gets teh right hand turn off to Carol's rest (Gorah loop - before the left hand turn off that leads to teh plains up towards Carol's rest), I was watching a few kudu acting skittish by the waterhole on the right.

A hyena popped his (her?) head up, and I became all excited, so I decided to stick around.
He (she?) decided to cross teh road in front of me, from right to left, and as he(she) turned the head I saw the ear was missing - a fresh wound, that must have happened Friday night, Saturday morning. There was also puncture wound on the rear left hind haunch too. I will post a photo of this poor soul tomorrow when Iget my card reader.
It may help with IDentification purposes.

I interpret this as one fo the following :

The original hyenas have formed clans now, and this is a result of inter-clan territory battles, or a higher ranking individual being deposed of its rank, or a lion attack.
I doubt the latter as the wounds - as grusome as they appear do not look half as bad as what a lion could inflict.

They walked down the road right up to our car and then stopped at the door and looked up through the window at my wife.
