We have stayed in the safari tents on three ocations.

Surely there are more than enough room for a camping cot and you don't have to fold it away during the day time because then you are not in the tent, but rather in your car at a waterhole. The cot can even fit between the two beds which mean you don't have to get out of bed during the night

I have reason to smile, within 4 days I am going to stay in a rondawel at Addo for 3 wonderful nights. According to the weather forecast some (very needed in Addo) rain is forcasted for Thursday and Friday

Can anybody tell me whether the rondawels have some cover over the deck? I am looking forward to sit and watch the waterhole most of the time. Also, is the braai far from the rondawel itself?

Chalet, rondavel or cottage - what do I choose?

P.S. Just saw that the rondavels have no kitchen, so it is only between chalet and cottage and which no. too , but the rondavels are closer to the water hole

The rondavels don't have a kitchen in the rondavel but there is a big fully equipped communal kitchen for all the rondavels. For each rondavel there is a separate stove, pots and utensils. The kitchen is very clean and all the utensils for a rondavel are in a separate cabinets which are locked.
The view of the waterhole from the rondavels is very good and I prefer the rondavels to the chalets.

Thank you Madach! I had a look at the map and actually the kitchen is so close to the rondavels, that it is almost like having it in the "house". Are their braai facilities?

Sorry for the late reply on your question, but I've been away on maternity leave. I hope it's still useful to you.
Yes, each rondavel has its own braai which is on the grass near to (a few paces away)the rondavels stoep/verandah. Each rondavel has its own fridge on the stoep.
The stoep does have a cover over it (the roof extends over it).

We usually stay in a bungalow/cottage - but have opted for our next stay, to have a rondavel, because of their location overlooking the waterhole.

We were a bit worried - about the lack of a kitchen, but now I've read these posts, I'm very pleased with the choice we've made.

Hello,
I'd like to visit the Addo Elephant Park this summer. I will be driving a 4X4 with rooftop tent (in which I'll sleep ofcourse ). I have visited the websites of a few camps in Addo, in which they're saying that only tents are allowed on the campsite... No cars...
Can anyone tell me in which Addo camps I can park the 4X4 on the campsite? Or do I need to book a place on the caravan site? Or does de campsite has a small parking spot?

The camp sites in the main Addo camp are very small but I was able to erect a 5 man tent and my car was parked alongside it in the road. Also there was a picnic table and bench in the site as well it was a little cramped but OK I don't think you will have much problem there, I cannot say what the other sites are like that are not in the main camp.

I have booked the campsite!

I have never been to the Addo park and was wondering if anyone can tell me more about the options for accomodation for families. We have 3 kids under 7. we really want them to see animals in the wild. I noticed that there only seems to be one "family unit" which was a little out of our price range. Is it better to stay within the park, or is it easier as a family to come in as day visitors (if possible?) and find good accomodation options outside of the park? Any ideas? We plan to travel in May.

Hi Mum! Welcome to the forums! Hope that you'll get all the advice you need here. Unfortunately - can't really help you a lot - have only been to Addo once for one night...

I checked Addo's accomodation - and it seems that if you are not up for camping - the "family unit" is the only way to go inside of the park. I also do know that it IS possible to stay outside the park and enter as a day visitor. I just don't know where one could stay - I'm not very familiar with the area around Addo.

I do hope someone will come around with more detailed advice soon...

Many years ago I used to stay with my two kids in a rondavel, I am sure if you spoke with someone at reception they will advise you otherwise the Zuurberg Inn (now called Zuurberg Village?) is a good place that is situated about 1/2 hour away up the mountain, they have a pool and the food is OK. There are a number of B&Bs around the area that are even closer. Maybe two of the children have to share a bed if you stay in the Park, I have always found Addo Park personnel to be very helpful and will try and accommodate you.
