Welcome to this madhouse Lynni.

One thing.

I LOVE IT!!

Great shot Lynni

Only one minor point.
It is cropped a bit tight. Would have loved to see a bit more of the head.

Hi Lynni

What can I say, I am also a budding photographer, but that shot is awesome.

Well done.

I am not a photographer at all, but from a "know nothing" the pic is great. It just seems to be a bit "squashed." Maybe it is that thing Michel said about the cropping.

Agree with the cropping, but just a bit, not too much more.

Then, if you under expose, or in post processing just lower the brightness level a bit, especially in the mouth, the image will have a more of a POP effect, like this:

But otherwise, GREAT photo!

Hi Lynni

I like your photo! It has impact, the depth of field is good (looks like at least f8), the mouth is tilted from the bottom LH corner to the TRH corner so is appealing to the eye, the image is sharp and I like the tight crop.

I agree with Swichback re the exposure to make the teeth and tongue pop, because that is the focal-point of the picture. If you don't have Photoshop, which is expensive, you can download free programs like Picasa or Irfanview to do exposure tweaking.

fazekma,

Just out of interrest, I edited that pic on my work laptop which does not have the Nikon CaptureNX I use for all post processing on my images, I did that small correction with Microsoft Office Picture Manager!

and all I ever used office picture manager for was to crop and view - thanks for the tip - an effective result from a program everyone should have on their machine!

Wonderfully sharp and agree with switchback and fazekma, very appealing commpe would have a little less tighter crop and the changes switchback made to the exposure really made it POP

Lynni looks like you are well on your way to being a little more than a beginner, great photo! the sharpness is perfect and like others said i would not have such a tight crop unless thats the way the picture was taken. If you have the software i would also darken the backround very slightly

Maybe you could have brushed his teeth before you shot the picture.
