The reson why is one I would rather let one of the more knowledgable mites explain, but if you use the searchfunction and you do a search for "teleconvertor" or "tc" you might find the answer.

As for the hood I pressume you mean a suncap.
If you take photo's without it you can get sunflare in your photo's, Sometimes it can get you an unexpected, beautiful photo, but most of the times it is quite undesirable.

I found this in another thread and might explain it a bit for you:

DuQues wrote:A 2x converter costs you two stops.

So from f/4.5 you end up with f/8, and a 450D will loose AF. The 1.4 converter is just 1 stop, so f/5.6 which will please the camera enough for AF.
Tripod or other support make no difference to that, but will of course make a difference to the sharpness to your photo.

There are two real options in the Parks:

AV (Aperture value.)
You decide how much DOF there will be in the photo. Great option, but with small apertures you'll need to watch your shuttertime like a hawk, or you may get blurred photos.

TV (Shutter priority).
You decide the shuttertime, and the appropriate DOF is selected by the camera.
Set to 1/250 or 1/500 you'll get crisp photos of the animals, but in situations with a lot of light may get distracting backgrounds. Big problem can occur, the camera hasn't got a fast enough lens on it, so isn't able to get the proper exposure and won't shoot.

So in Kruger, with clouds racing past, or branches overhead, choosing the TV setting may be the safer setting, but you also may need to change your shuttertime in a hurry.

Hi Massimo,
I use Nikon and have a Kenko Mc7 2X. Used it in KNP last year and worked wonders with my 80-400 mm zoom lens.
Here's an example of a very long shot with it mounted.

Had no particular problem except that it felt a little loose and not firmly blocked between lens and camera. Another small detail, it does not show on your meta data so if you use it on a 400 mm it shows as 400 and not 800 mm.

This one was miles away, Mike you remember the spot??

I remember. Just above Satara.
Took that shot with a 1200 mm manually.
