To compound matters I only realised on Wed that this was a CAMERA club meet      Which would explain Switchback's bemusement at my lack of ISO enthusiasm

We all gathered for a feast prepared by Shi. Originally, when Shi had invited us for a picnic while walking towards the bird hide, I thought she was joking when she said she had enough victuals to feed an army! It turned out that she could have fed an entire nation: there were piles of sandwiches, masses of cooked chicken, nuts, crisps, chocolates, a caramel swiss roll, cheese platter, and of course beer, wine, and cooldrinks.

It was an unbelievable spread that nobody anticipated, and I genuinely want to thank Shi for the magnificent preparation and generosity she displayed!    She also was a great hostess, and together with her mother, Lynn B, they walked around offering everyone everything until we were so sated we couldn't look at another thing. Then the sandwiches were passed around again, and swiss roll was served!

The jokes grew more witty and flowed as freely as the alcohol, especially after Shi's brother, Geoff, arrived with more beer. Everyone shared stories and laughed loudly - definitely one of the best groups I've been in; which is even more remarkable because most of us had never met each other before!

MM shared some super biltong from a butchery near her, and also her favourite "bubbly" later in the afternoon.

It was a lovely afternoon, and we all vowed to do it again soon ... this time perhaps becoming more camera-active at the same time. Holigan and Mellory had to leave relatively early, as did Switchback and Big5Spotter, and also Just Nature and Lizette. I apologise to you six as I hadn't yet got into picture-taking mode before you left - if any of you took pics of the group, perhaps you could post them here?

Next: Some of the pics I took

CC, I put up the best pics as I know most of the people present at the meet would prefer that. However, I suspect that Holigan and/or Mellory took a few pics, but it's up to them if they want to post them.
