ndloti, we saw it out here too. There was a fair amount of cloud cover that reflected an orange glow and bright blue light in the sky. It was as bright as daylight for, like you say, two or so seconds. It left us wondering "what just happend? That was NOT lightning" It was amazing!!!

From what I can find it was called Leonids Meteor Shower and will be happening again on 18th Nov 2010, I hope so because I will be in Kruger at that time :-)
This is the link that I found, if I am wrong please let me know, I think it would be AWESOME to be in the Kruger (away from city light) at watch this :popcorn:

also there is another link that shows last years "show"

Shutterbug, the Leonids do occur every year, and if you're out in Kruger and can sit quietly outside on a clear night when it happens it will be a good place to see and enjoy them, but this baby wasn't part of that.

Does that mean I will see about 115 regular shooting stars an hour? thats amazing if it does.

That's EXACTLY what it means. Depending on the light conditions, visibility etc., you will probably see less, but should still be able to see quite a number.

can you please advice me on what books to read for star gazed beginner.
i love the universe & all its content it's just people miss uses it for other things like reading the future.I would just like to know more about our universe that was created by our awesome God.
