'The Reptile 6'... Hmm good idea...
I would have to agree with WTM's list. I have seen a Puffie and Moz. Spitting cobra but not in any of the National Parks. Probably because I only go there during winter seasons :hmz:

I have seen the black mamba just outside the Shingwedzi gate on the tarmac crossing the road early morning. It was a great sighting and I was all excited about it.

In august 2007 a phyton had its resting and hunting place at
Nkhulu picnic spot.
Lay just underneath the wall next to the river in the reeds.
According to one employee it was there for some time and hunted the vervet monkeys

BasDutch, thanks for your interest in this post.

BasDutch, whenever I look at the photo you have posted of the Black Mamba, I keep on wondering if that really is a Black Mamba. I do not know why but I keep on getting this feeling that it is not. The snake's head shape, whatever I can see if I zoom in on it, does not fit the head shape for me of a Black Mamba. The photo is a bit unclear if one zooms in on it.

Is it possible to PM me a bigger size photo?

Mfezi

I would like to suggest the following 5 reptiles for the Big 5 Reptiles:

Rock Monitor
Leopard Tortoise
Black Mamba
Mozambique Spitting Cobra
Twig Snake

Any other suggestions, Forumites??

May be we can even arrange a "Reptile watch" weekend in the KNP once a year.

I have said enough now. Please give inputs/feedback.

Mfezi

Mfezi, I think its a brilliant idea. I like the "reptile watch" weekend idea. It will for sure create an awareness for snakes on the roads. Snake sightings can be recorded and stats of where and when etc can be kept.

My big 5 :
Black Mamba
Puff adder
Mozambique spitting cobra
African Python
Boomslang

I must be honest, I have quite a fear (respect  ) for snakes so I am forever on the look out :|
