I need your advise and comments on the below question, please:

"Is it right and acceptable for strangers to walk through THE MIDDLE of one's camp site, on route to the ablutions?"

This happened to us this past weekend and when we kindly asked that they walk behind our tent and / or caravan they called us names and even swore at us.

The sites were demarcated by means of stumps and there was a route to the ablutions (granted a bit longer than the one they chose) a bit further down the row so surely no reason to intrude on other campers privacy.

There were six of us on this camp site, the gents were braaing and the ladies were sitting under the tent awning and these strangers merely sauntered right between us, with no smile, apology, thanks -- nothing!

Have times changed so much that this is an accepted thing now? Would love to hear your comments on this please? Maybe I'm just missing the plot............

There is no law that prevents them from doing this, it is just plain and simple bad manners. The same happened to me at Berg-n-Dal. What I did is to span a dark coloured rope at ankle height between 2 trees at my camp site. When the 'intruders' again walked through my camp site, 2 of them tripped over the rope and fell down. When they confronted me, I told them that it is my camp site and I can tie ropes wherever I want to. End of story.

The best way to stop people walking through your camp site is to put up screens -shadecloth screens are available at most camping supply stores.

All this hassle as some people simply do not behave decently

Whenever peeps walk through our campsite I always say Hello with a big smile .. they either are friendly back at me or scurry off and do not do it again...

I had a person who insisted on walking through my campsite last year at Satara despite me asking him to please not do so.
I ended up parking my car right up next to bush essentialy blocking the shortcut through my campsite.
I couldnt beleive just how lazy this sod was when he continued walking, basically though the bush scratching himself nicely, just avoid an extra 10 meters

We also encountered something similar on our last trip at Shingwedzi. On returning from the ablutions, I walked behind a family doing the "fence patrol". They then walked onto our campsite and stood right next to our braai, basically a metre away from the tent. No matter how loud I coughed, the nonchelantly carried on their business, then proceeding through the next campers site.

I have no problem with people coming to look for animals at the fence, but not when they stand right in amongst your camping set-up. On the above occasion, there was an open area one further campsite away, where they could have gladly done their spotlight searches from without disturbing others.

One positive of their visit though, was that their spotlight found a fight between a Civet and a Side-Striped Jackal

Melaniejayne, unfortuanately most of the human race has been inflicted by a 21st century plague called "me,myself,I disease". We would never dream of walking through somebody else's campsite, we always walk around a campsite and always with a "hello". Last year in Tsendze a "jogger" jogged right through our campsite, giving me the fright of my life. I thought we were being attacked by some sort of wild animal. I hate selfishness and I also hate people who do not care about the next person especially at a sighting and also in the abultion blocks.

When we were at Shinwedzi last year we were staying in a bungalow.

We had been out for an evening drive and came home to find a man lighting up a fire on our braai!!!

We asked him why and he he said the moveable grill on his didn't work properly!!

I said "but why didn't you report it was faulty"

The reply "Couldn't be bothered!!!!!easier to used yours!!!!

We refused to make an issue out of it, because to me Kruger is about being calm and relaxed, and annoying as it was, the world didn't come to and end...............but we did insist he cleared up after he'd finished.

You have too much patience Val. I would have fetched a bucket with water and doused his fire just as he was ready to start braaing his food.

It did cross my mind Rooies, but I'm only 4ft 10inches and he was a big oke!!!

Maybe you should have thanked him, went in get your chops and asked him to braai them for you too!!! Then ask what are we having with the braai and walk over to his chalet and start to plate up!!!............
