A absolute essential for travellers to SA is:
ORS, Oral Rehydration Salts.
Has been a blessing when i had food poisening in Namibia
When everything passes in lightning speed through your body
the salts still stays in your system when you get dehydrated.

Panado
Nurofen
Crepe bandage

I have been packing my first aid kit recently and I have to say some essentials are
Oral rehydrate
Panado
Disinfectant
Bandage

I've heard of this nifty little machine that helps a lot if you are bitten by a snake. If you are bitten, you put this thing on the bite ASAP and it will suck up 80% of the poison. Thats all I know, if anyone has additional info or one of them, please tell us more.

As well as the medicines already mentioned, I always take something for:
- burns
- insect bites

However the American College of Emergency Physicians tested it, and say the following about it:

The machine that removes the poisen from a snake bite is called a ASPICENIN SUCCO PUMP (it is used to remove the poison from a snake bite). And yes it is available in South Africa.

We only have 4 things in our first aid kit

1. Tabard mozzie repellant
2. Sunscreen
3. Doom
4. Amarula

Have never needed anything else....
