To all mites, when you are in Twee Rivieren please feel welcome to contact me so that we could introduce you to the kids at the school, they do appreciate it so much to meet the mites which have made Tsamma Land possible.

I'm really looking forward to meeting them all. :D

@ KG
I have a computer for Tsamma Land, will try to send it up in the 2nd week of August!

What programmes will Tsamma Land need on it?

Just Microsoft Word & Excel?

As you may know Tsamma Land at Twee Rivieren has re-opened (see KG's thread Tsamma Land Re-opens) - at the moment the after-school and holiday programme has approximately 20 to 25 children between the ages of 5 to 13. Further plans include the opening of a pre-school in January 2013 for children between the ages of 3 to 5, a media centre and a library so that the rest of the community at Twee Rivieren has access to books.
An immediate priority is to set-up a small library for the children - currently there is no or little access to any reading material for these children and developing reading skills and imaginative thinking is a priority for development in all children.
A number of us are keen to start a book drive which I have undertaken to co-ordinate. This has been agreed with the VHRs who will be kept in the loop in terms of managing donations etc. (Guinea Pig has managed this for us)
The best and obvious start is the forum, beyond that we will looking at getting in touch with book sellers and publishers - so we would be delighted if any of you are able to contribute to this project. The criteria for book donations are as follows: books need to be in Afrikaans, for children / teenagers between the ages of 5 to 17 (although there is a phased approach to the facilities at Tsamma Land, we can start collecting for older children now), in reasonable condition please and finally age appropriate in terms of themes, illustrations etc.

I am more than happy to fetch any donations from forumites in Cape Town or surrounds - and co-ordinate delivery of books from places further afield. Please let either Scouter or I know if you are keen to be involved.

Every year I have the pleasure of treating young ones in my role as Santa Claus!

And yes, this year I am in the Kgalagadi on Christmas Eve!

So I asked KG if I must not wear the red suit for Tsammaland that morning! And in Nossob that evening!

Do you think this is a good idea?

Maybe I can take some presents with, as well as hand out the presents that parents bought for the kids as well?

@ctv4

That would be great and lots of fun as well. We will run the Christmas drive again this year since last year was such a huge success.

Will send you a PM to discuss details

Hi KG

Was thinking along those lines myself :D - how about trying to do not only the Tsamma Land school but also another school in the vicinity seeing as we did Welkom school last year - there aren't that many children at Tsamma Land and the response was so overwhelming last year with people wanting to buy presents, maybe we could do both ??

How does everyone feel ?? I am happy to do as I did last year and go prezzie shopping for folk who want to be part of this but find it hard to get the presents up to KTP ....
