CTV4 - me again .... think the carpets would be wonderful - thanks !

Somewhere under the Arid Parks is a thread called "Clothing Drive for local KTP Communites" or something like that, that I started after we camped in KTP last June ... I am sure that they would like a stash of kids clothes, especially for the little ones who quite often have "accidents" and need something dry, especially in winter.. :thumbs_up:

@CTV4,

The carpets would be such a blessing to keep the classroom warm, thanks so much. As Scouter mentioned clothing is always a winner and the are so many people who needs warm clothing as ithas become real cold at the moment.

Thanks

@ K G

May I ask that you take more pics of Tsamma Land?

And can we use the pics in our search for stuff for Tsamma Land?

And I trust that a box full of old magazines to cut pictures from will also help?

And old newspapers, maybe to make paper mache?

Hi there everybody! :D

Just a reminder from the VHR's and Mods:

PLEASE send either me, Scouter or ctv4 a list of what you're taking with to KTP or sending by courier or post. :pray:

This needs to be done by the book, so no fingers can be pointed at anyone. I am keeping record of the donations which is shared with everybody involved. :think:

Thanks everybody! :gflower:

This project sounds great!
However, a word of warning in the use of toilet roll inner tubes! Unless you can effectively disinfect these, which is very difficult to do with absorbant materials, you are putting the children at risk of contracting diseases or becoming ill with tummy bugs etc as you will not know whether the 'previous users' have a communicable disease - or even whether they are contaminated with faeces, blood, or urine!
In pre- and after school settings in the UK we make our own 'tubes' out of cardboard and either staples or cellotape or we use cut down clingfilm/cooking foil tubes, but we NEVER EVER use toilet roll tubes as it turns our stomachs thinking about what may be on/inside them!

On another note, if you need any samples of childcare policies and procedures; parent, staff or volunteer contracts and policies, or any other policies or procedure documents, please let me know via whittondaynursery@btconnect.com and I can email them to you. My policies, procedures and contracts are 'In Accordance with UK Law' (and are updated every year or whenever we receive information about changes in the law) but I believe that SA law, regarding Childcare, is not disimmilar, and that you need to have suitable policies and procedures in place. You can, of course, adapt my policies etc to confirm to SA law, which other organisations have done after receiving them.
I am sure that you will have covered this angle but, if there is anything that you think that you have missed, please let me know.

Morning All,

@ Hugh,

The majority of the kids are all school going about 6 - 12 years of age. anything warm like scarves, and cloves would be a winner.

Thanks

@ctv4,

I have taken more pics yesterday, but i have urgent work at Mata-Mata and outside camps so I will be able to post them within the next two days. Old magazines and news papers are very welcome and will be put to good use.

@Tabs,

Thanks so much for the information I have made a note and will mention it to the respective parties. We will not jeopardize any of the kids health the people involved in the school does not only mean the people in Twee Rivieren through my SO we have involved a crèche in Pretoria as well which helps us with the administration etc.

On the lighter side, if the kids here can eat the red sand as if it is sweets (believe me my little one does the same) they will not have a short of iron in :lol: their bodies

Thanks for the concern and all the help.

Regartds

I met with KG's SO a week ago and discussed setting up a small 'library' corner for the children to use as well as teenagers to borrow from during their school holidays. This is a real need. We spoke a bit about specifics; books in Afrikaans etc. which I will post on the forum once agreed. I would like to co-ordinate this but need to understand better the implications in terms of donations - perhaps one of the moderators could let me know. I am based in CT and would be happy to work with / through Scouter if that's easier as I see she is co-ordinating other donations to the school. Scouter and Guinea Pig, I will PM you both if that's ok.

Due to the Clothing drive we have collected plenty beanies, scarf’s and cloves. These were then handed out at the school on the day the goodies arrived. We asked Scouter to assist with the handing out of the Beanies etc.

To all mites, when you are in Twee Rivieren please feel welcome to contact me so that we could introduce you to the kids at the school, they do appreciate it so much to meet the mites which have made Tsamma Land possible.

Regards

Kg
