As far as I know it is possible to "sell" a "signed" photo.
Basically what would happen is similar to donating a pating to an an auction house for sale where the proceeds go to a charity for example.

The credit for the photo remains yours. Just because it is "sold" by a third party does not mean the credit goes to them. The agreement is simply that the proceeds go to an "agreed" fund.

I woud suggest that the proceeds go to the same fund(s) that are available in the give&gain donation section of the SANPARKS website.

I would also just suggest that the logistics behind the whole plan is carefully looked at. The design of the database is one thing but in a project like this where there is likely to be 1000's of photo's it might be a full time "moderating" job to sort and analise photo's. As the world is today you are going to get freaks who upload XXX pics just because they can and try to use it for advertising etc... It's just the way the world is..

Just my two cents worth...

Morning Baffers,

Putting up the initial database is where the big work is and will take some serious thinking and work.
Once it is functional and running it will be a question of managing it all on a daily/weekly/monthly basis and not loose track of what is given out (pictures).
All the other details can be worked out so as to give it all a specific reason to exist and this is what it is all about.

Something that would worry me is have the database available to the whole world. Could be interesting to know what he choices are : availability only with registration ? availability only to certain sectors like tourism/promotion ?. Might sound complicated but having it available to whoever might complicate database management a bit.

Like a library where you can borrow books, same thing organisation wise. :)

Morning Micetta, yes something like that.
An example:
- I sell use of my Kenya/Tanzania wildlife pictures exclusively to the tourist market (travel agencies/tour operators) and only for a maximum period of 2 years.
- I can not sell the same picture to two clients. Between one sale and the other I guarantee that my picture will not be used for another period of 2 years. It really means that I'm paid for 2 but the picture is "blocked" for 4 years.
- My clients get to know of my offers through a news letter I send twice e year where I list, with just a few low quality examples, the database available and the new entries.

You'd be surprised but most operators still print pictures taken 15-20 years ago and the big business lies with new pictures of hotels, lodges, rooms and so on. A lion 15 years ago looks the same as a lion yesterday....
