I think we as a forum should consider KNPS's suggestion of going ahead with a petition.

How do we start one?

I will take this to Zax and see which will be the best way to run it from their side. Either as the pledge for Earth Day was or as a topic here on the forum we can then copy the pledges over from? Any other ideas of how to do it? Shall it be a pledge or petition? Wording? What do you guys think?

Lets start a new topic for this in Wild Projects. Will make a split shortly.

I think a pledge by all forumites will be a better idea? Something like:
As a regular Sanparks visitor I hearby pledge that:
I will respect nature, the animals, the park rules and other visitors all equally.
I pledge to not litter in the parks, not speed in the parks and to respect the fact that I'm entering the animal's territory.
I also pledge to point out to other visitor's when they are not adhering to the park rules, and hereby educate them, so that all visitors can enjoy the parks as was meant to be.

Wat do you think? Just a quick one off the top of my head. Feel free to add, change or throw in the dustbin alltogether!

I pledge to always abide by the SANparks rules, and to help to educate others to do the same. I also pledge to report offenders to the appropriate authority at the first opportunity.

Kruger National Park is my 'heaven on Earth' and to maintain it as such I pledge to abide by the rules and regulations of the Park and to educate others about the rules and regulations of the Park. I pledge to be courteous, to always respect that animals have right of way and should not be harassed or disturbed, to respect the fact that I am a priviliged visitor and as such have a responsibility to do my part in keeping Kruger a 'heaven on Earth'

Hi everyone

Just to let you all know, the issues have been noted and are being addressed urgently.

As for the pledge for visitors to SANParks to adhere to the rules, we think it is a fabulous idea... Watch this space...

Good work everyone, keep the passion!!!

I like the pledge, but please let's remember the other parks.

KTP is my heaven on earth. And I'm quite fond of TMNP and Addo and the Karoo NP and Mountain Zebra and Wilderness and Augrabies and ...

Exactly what I was thinking as I got into work this morning. The pledge should include all Parks.

Maybe I am the only not getting it but why the heck would anyone pledge to abide by rules or sign a petition(which is used out of context anyways and should rather be replaced with pledge) to promise to adhere to the rules?

It makes no sense to me at all. Rules are rules. You have to adhere to it regardless!

People break rules because of two reasons. They either ain't aware of it in the first place or simply because they get away with it. I can't see how me signing a petition will stop others from doing wrong.

And as for visiting the Park (or any other popular holiday destination) over long weekends and school holidays. It is always going to be jam packed, people. And the more humans congregate in a specific location the more bad apples and opportunities for wrong doing will pop up.

And numbers will also affect the service provided by the staff. 1 person can only do so much before the multi tasking ability
goes out of the window.

Sharpen up the policing in the Park.
Have a zero tolerance attitude. Both with visitors and with poachers and that includes the courts.
Control the numbers of the visitors more efficiently.
Train the staff. (Do they undergo appraisals?)
Deploy more staff in busier periods.

 Thanks for recognising the human element. Everyone has limitations in capability and I'm certain that everyone does their absolute best to keep people happy - regardless of what their job is.

It is also true that only people who already abide by the rules will sign this kind of pledge, but it also serves as an educational tool, like the "Keep Our Parks Clean" pledge.

Yes it is important to include all our parks in this initiative, not only KNP. As I mentioned earlier, the concerns raised are being addressed as a matter of urgency and will be addressed across all our parks.

Keep the positive input coming guys - we're listening.
