Thanks

EJ I had an idea for this video loop. Both Wits and University of Johannesburg offer BA degrees where the kids study TV production and the likes. BA Drama with something. Perhaps one of the universitys could be persuaded to make our project an assignment for the 2nd or 3rd year students. We could use the best production they produce and it would probably reduce the cost of the production of the video. Just an idea

Thanks - will put it in the 'pot' for the discussion with management when we get there.....

You should also try some of the colleges/universities doing sound engineering. Students could be able to assist with the mixing the sound and doing post-production on the sound. Could be a great student project; it gives the students valuable experience and we can maybe get the video done for mahala (that's for free for the non-Saffies  ). The colleges very often have their own studios the students work in.

Yes Senyetse. I also think that a number of new people would be educated on how to behave in a national park. So we would be "killing 2 birds with one stone"

Several tourists to KNP have complained about staff speeding. This is sometimes not true as some staff are allowed to drive at 65 km/h. Maybe the video should contain some info on this and why staff are allowed to drive at the higher speed.

I think that this is a GREAT idea and would be happy to help where ever I can.

I do have one negative comment to make though (and not necessarily about the idea) - I think you are giving offenders more credit than they deserve... We go to Kruger about twice a year, and we have found that there are 2 types of people that visit Kruger. The Kruger fanatics (the real nature lovers), and the people that are looking for an entertaining day out, filled with as much excitement as possible at all costs. We have found time and time again that people 'hog' sightings, scare animals, shout and scream after dark in the camps etc etc. I don't think education will help these people - I think that the only thing that will help in these cases is a HEFTY fine. When you 'check-in' at the entry gate (be it for a day trip or an overnight visit), you should have to sign an acknowledgement of the park's rules, stating that if you are caught offending, your details, including pictures may and will be used by the park in future 'anti-offending' campaignes. Education in my opinion should be aimed at children (and perhaps their parents). You can not tell me that any adult (be it a nature lover or not) does not know the difference between common courtesy and not. People who behave badly at sightings and make a noise at night in the camps simply do not care about the other people. How then, can you expect them to care for the animals? I believe that the only way to modify their behaviour is by making them pay - either financially, or by publicly humiliating them.

Now, after my little rant... How about running your video loop on the SANParks website? Not through the forums obviously, as that would be preaching to the converted - perhaps, say, along the edge of the 'availability' pages?

Hi Kathy
Glad you like this idea. Its a great one. There are 2 others that are also in the decision stage, one a colouring book for kids and another that wants to do pop-ups on the home page

I fully agree about the folk who just want to have a good time - but some of them are not necessarily selfish - just unthinking. Education will make a difference - maybe not convert them completely, but they will become aware of rules and regulations and slowly the penny may drop...... If we do nothing then nothing will happen! Doing something, even if does only reach a few, will at least lead to some improvement... How many of us have learned from reading comments/info given by other forumites?

I agree EJ . If we only change the behaviour of 10% of the problem community we have achieved something. Any education is better than none at all

Just seen this thread now and am 100% behind the initiative.

Anything that enrich a visit to a magical place like Kruger deserves all the support it can get.

Was any decision reached about this idea? :hmz:

It has most certainly not been shelved oddesy. We are hoping to possibly make this a project of the VHRs/forum next year

Will bring this to the attention of HQ again
With the WC on our doorstep many different langauges will be spoken and not everyone will be able to read english, german, afrikaan or french. Or actually understand what is written.

So the best thing would be screens at the entrance gates. To start in the south
