Video Loop

Unread postby ecojunkie » Thu Apr 24, 2008 6:09 pm

This thread has come about after discussions on the 'leopard dies at Lower Sabie' thread. We want to do something towards reducing the chance of a similar thing happening again, and generally to help visitors understand what is (and is not) acceptable behaviour in the parks.

The suggestion is a video loop to run at the reception areas so folk can watch it while they wait to book in.

I have created this thread to get ideas, maybe work together on content and a possible story-line - and in the future possible fund-raising for equipment.

Once we have a firm idea of what should be in the video we can explore the possibility of Kruger officials working with us on shooting it, and setting up scenarios if needed. Although I suspect they will be in on the idea long before we get there, and making contributions!

My initial thoughts are:
1. limited time - probably no longer than 5 minutes total
2. no necessary to have 'video' as such - still photos can be just as effective
3. commentary in English for widest understanding, but content must also be able to speak for itself so all can understand
4. first picture to be a welcome montage in as many languages as possible (c'mon graphic designers???)
5. maybe it could also be shown in the shops at their video booths several times a day?
6. some still photos could be used for an information poster too - put up in restrooms e.g.

OK - over to you!

Perhaps some shock photos of what happens to animals that become to human friendly and pics of stressed animals like the leopard?
Also some photos of what something like a big male baboon can do to a person. eg its size vs a full grown man & its fearsome teeth (the baboons teeth, not the man  )

One example of how not to behave! (Taken today at Mpondo dam - they actually drove in and drove off like that, just how long they travelled that way I do not know!)

Maybe after that video, do something with snares, poaching etc.

It could maybe work to repeat after "your" loop.

Hope we get this right, and that Sanparks will be with us!! :D

The Lowveld HRs already have an anti-poaching display so a lot of that work is done already - maybe we can work with them on that one.

In fact maybe we have just found our first project for when we have our virtual HR division......this is the sort of thing everyone can be involved in.

Well, how about we start a list of items to be included?
eg:
speeding
behaviour on one-way bridges
behaviour at sightings
feeding/enticing animals
staying in vehicle
not driving over elephant and rhino dung

When we have a list we can then get it in topics and begin to get a story-line together. Perhaps we should keep our own photos out of it for now so it is easier to read and download - later we can collate photos on specific issues.

After a few days I will go through the thread and collate suggestions into one list to keep things clear.

And thanks Dinkybird - it seems we have Mod approval!!!

As per your pic EC, no off road driving and the reasons shown if possible, altho that could also come under behaviour at sightings.
