Er, forgive my stoopidity, but why do we only have an earth day?

We should have an earth lifetime.

Thank you everyone for getting involved in the Earth Day pledge. I really appreciate the sterling support you all showed towards this initiative.

BH an Hawk, the promises people made should be kept every day of their lives so I think in a way, we got people committing towards protecting the Earth for a lifetime.

Once again people... Thank You

And let us watch this space for an even better response next year!

Mods, if this is not appropriate, feel free to remove.
I’m sure some of you have heard the following speech before, but for those who haven’t, this is really amazing…trust me, well worth waiting for the download.
I received the video clip through a mail but was able to also find it on YouTube.

We recently returned from the Kgalagadi National Park. Thought I would share with you their contribution towards creating awareness.
A mini candle was inserted into an info brochure and placed on our bedside tables on the 22nd. Electricity was swiched off between 9.30 and 10.30pm

One of my pledges for Earth Day was to conserve water.
Canada has one of the world's largest (if not THE largest)
supplies of fresh water and we are notorious for wasting it.
So....I wrote this to the editor of the local newspaper. It appeared in today's paper. One way of creating awareness.

To The Editor:

I was watching TV the other day and noticed a public service announcement from the Government of Canada advising Canadians that water is our most precious resource. Conserve water, was the message.

Driving home the next night, I observed a Town of Riverview truck flooding the Hillsborough Road with water from a hydrant. Two days later another hydrant was being flushed in Moncton's old west end and Arlington Drive and Burlington Avenue were turned into small rivers.

Come on guys . . . is there nothing else that could be done with that water?

This is necessary, I realize, for the maintenance of the water lines, but could you fill up water trucks and use that water for any other purpose? Paving companies need a lot of water; plants downtown need to be watered; fire trucks could be filled; backyard pools could be filled. Use your imagination. How much of our "most precious resource" is wasted in every city doing this very thing? There has got to be a better way.

P. Young,

Moncton

Here's another "green" project! Ironically it is being erected in the vicinity of a uranium test site

I guess I never really thought about how "big" these windmills are...
