The posting up of form members’ scrap book pages see here) was the inspiration behind the idea of placing scrapbooks filled with forumites contributions of photo’s, poetry etc. in the reception areas of national parks camps.

Samples of scrapbooks were compiled, just to give an idea of the proposed project and were shown to the relevant people at Addo and the Kruger National Park before announcing the idea as we did not want to raise hopes without getting permission for the project first. Both parks were thrilled with the idea and gave the go ahead.

So, forum members, now that permission has been granted we can start compiling these books. The moderators have suggested I coordinate the project as I have scrapbooking experience. As it is late in the year, for those of you who are interested (and let’s hope that’s all of you lol!) for now perhaps everyone can start collecting photos as well as any other memorabilia that could be used for the scrapbooking pages.

I will be holding classes (free of charge) for forum members living in the Cape Town area who would like help creating their pages.

Peeps remember this is a fun project for EVERYONE, scrapbooking is not only for the “artistic”! anyone can do it, just give it a try.

I will be posting up details of where to purchase the blank pages as well as all the other goodies you can use on the pages.

Next year, perhaps someone can take a sample scrapbook to KTP, and if they agree, books can be placed there too.

On another note, Jay and Diannet have discussed the forum members’ visitors’ book idea and will post up an idea of what the book could look like for you to discuss. They will then proceed with gaining permission from the relevant people to place the books in the parks/camps, so watch this spot…..

Great news Michele!! I wish you all the success with the project - just a pity I am a 'bit' far away to join in your classes as it sounds like they will be great fun! The examples shown on the Scrapbooking thread are great - what a fun way to get even more involved in SANParks!

(Fingers crossed we get the go-ahead for the visitors books too!!)

Michele, will the books be general Kruger or will you need specific camp pages too?

The aim ( I think!) is to target the smaller camps in Kruger...those that have a reception area in which to place the album. So yes specific camp pages would be good but so would general Kruger pages do as well. But we are going to try to get albums into all the parks ..not just Kruger. We already have permission for Addo and Kruger and we will eventually work our way through the parks. In the meantime everybody must start collecting bits and bobs and start planning their pages.....please

Michele - that's a pretty coherent post for someone who just hosted the mother of all forum meets last night.

Is the idea that a scrapbook is made for each camp in advance, then given to the camp? Or could I add a page at a later date to the scrapbook when I visit the camp?
