Handing birdguide to Abel

Unread postby Petro Rossouw » Mon Oct 29, 2007 6:58 pm

After the request by Freda to help Abel with a bird guide and bino's, I decided to buy him the updated version of Kenneth Newman's Birds of Southern Africa.
We booked a night at Letaba for the 27th, and made arrangements with Abel to hand over the book that evening.
He was so thankful, and expressed the hope that he will be able to do some guiding in the future, What a privilege it was to see the joy on his face.

Petro, you are a star, thank you so much
I would love to have seen his face.
Duques was going to give him some binocs but when he got them out they had mould on the lens, no problem I will make a plan to take him a pair at Christmas
With Abels's enthusiasm he deserves to be guiding.

A big pleasure. The saying, that it is more gratifying giving than receiving, is indeed true.

After chatting to Abel, who is a petrol attendant at Letaba, he told me he is Pafuri Frank's brother-in-law (they are married to sisters) and he is just so enthusiastic about birding and has the best teacher possible in Frank :D

Well I'm back in for helping with the bins funding.

Many thanks Petro for funding and delivering the book.

At the end of it all you don't want to go into the grave peacefully and quietly in well preserved body... You want to go sort off skidding in sideways, full of bruises and scratches saying: "Man what a ride!!!"
