Webcam Donations

Unread postby SANParks » Thu Sep 01, 2005 8:57 am

Dear all,

For anyone wishing to donate funds to SANParks, the application is now implemented.

Currently there are 4 projects - all related to webcam purchases and implementation. Please refer to home page.

If you wish to go straight to the donation form, here's the direct link (also accessible from home page).

Note to South Africans: If you are more comfortable to use your cheque or savings account, just select the alternative options link on the form. It is as easy as 1-2-3... I tried it myself.

Cheers,
admin

This is great, I'm going to donate the R500 I owe from my previous pledge :)
Will we be able to see how much we need to get Satara cam or any other cam and how close we are to getting it?

Only if I recognize the donor by name, which is often different from forum user name...

I suggest that after making a donation, the forum members post a message here.

Please remember that why and how [as intention] you donate is more important than how much you do.

My thoughts exactly. Some people have more money than other, even if it is just because of a nice exchange rate.
I think it is better if the actual amounts are not posted.

I agree DQ, but showing the total would be nice.

My suggestion is that someone volunteer as keeper of total donated by Forum members.

Suggestion is that if you wish not to disclose the amount on the forum, is that you PM the designated person and they will post running total in this thread.

I don't mind to volunteer for this job..

Remember the original thread about funding for a new cam.

I call upon all to honour your original pledges.

Thanks Freda for being the first.

PS:
Just checked the site out - R15 000 needed for Satara webcam.

If my memory serves me right, we managed to get approx R15 000 pledges from first thread.

@Admin:
Any way of keeping us posted of how much was donated by forum members?

I did I little "research" and to refresh our memories about this compiled the following:
Bwana sort of started the whole discussion on a new Satara cam with his post at the bottom of this page on 30 January 2005. On page 3 of the thread EricExSA mentions that a discussion is taking place to raise funds (it seems that the link to that page has been removed. Was called something in the line of Member activities: pledges)

And the reason why I could not find it is because someone ;) changed the heading of the thread and it is now called Funding for the next webcam were Wildtuinman offered to spend some time on a platform at Sunsetdam. He eventually decided not to do it because he would miss WTV and WTD to much

On this page Kruger (Danie) mentioned what will be needed to set up a new cam as well as the total cost (his post is about halfway down). Second last post EricExSA opened the bidding with an amount of $100 Canadian.

And then as with so many threads we went off-topic and as it was before the days of spin-offs you will have to work through a couple of T-shirt posts and then find the actual start of pledges on the bottom of page 3.

I'm sure that more are hidden between the thousands of post on this Forum but I think this will be enough to refresh our minds.

This is great news.
As per my previous post that I started about raising funds some time ago I am ecstatic and that this has finally taken off.
I pledged $100 Canadian which I am proud to say I have just donated to the cam.
Please let us know how much we have collected and how much is still to go for the next cam. I will try make a donation every month until we have the cam.
Many thanks for this great work and news.
I will retire in KNP

About the proposed Tsitsikamma Cam:
How about an underwater cam in a rock pool on the Tsitsikamma shoreline? Imagine being able to view various species of fish, crayfish, anemone and urchin alongside octopus, starfish and crab. Imagine the commotion on the cam as one of the many bird species that hunt the shoreline pools stabbed its beak or dived headlong into the pool while you are watching. Better still; imagine you see an Otter (after which the park’s world renowned Otter Trail hike is named) goes foraging in the pool.

I nominate this to be our second cam to fund. I will definately give a donation next month for this one.........

At this stage even the balance amount is updated manually, which I will do shortly, but the company is busy working on automating that process for the next software version, so I passed your suggestion on to them... I think it's a great idea!
