I am going to throw in a bit of a suggestion here and if its impractical, or too late, or just not feasable I am happy to be :sniper:

I have attended many, many meets, some big and some micro mini. My experience has been that once the crowd gets too big, restuarants just don't work that well.

If there is music, and/or many people, we have had to shout to be heard. At one meet, I arrived starving, but by the time the food arrived, I was nauseaus from the din of music, shouting and trying to concentrate above the latest "techno cr  '

There is also little mingling, meaning that you often miss out on really talking to people and getting to enjoy the meeing to it's max. I have often left frustrated because of missing out on chatting to someone who I had really wanted to get to know better.

I am making a suggestion that we seek a venue that is less restricted in terms of seating, definately has no music to act as competition and has a pleasant atmosphere.
The bird doesn't sing because it has answers, it sings because it has a song.

MM has raised very valid points. And other forumites also mentioned them to me earlier.

I do not know the area at all. Is there a suitable venue very close to the Northgate one? Kids must also be welcome there.

I think if we change venues, we must move to one close by?

BM - I am so easy and happy to fit in with whatever you guys decide!

If there is a big group, I have found the meets that we hold round a braai, or picnic, work better than holding it in a restaurant.

Weather is a factor - esp with you guys, because it can rain at the drop of a hat?

For me, I want to be able to chat comfortably to all of you :D that's all that matters!

Oh dear! This is beginning to sound like Jungle Book and the vultures.... What do you want to do - I don't know what do you want to do???

I think we have to take into consideration how many members will attend and perhaps the short time scale of after 3 as most females on their own will want to head off before it is too late. Obviously BM suggested the Spur since he doesn't normally frequent pubs. (I am taking a guess on this!! )

MM - will the clubhouse sell snacks and drinkies or will be bring our own? We get awful thirsty when we talk!!! Will there be chairs and tables, etc?

I am also one of those go with the flow type. My SO and I go through the same exercise when we go out for supper. (Where do you want to go? I don't know where do you want to go?) This inevitably leads to us going to the same places very regularly!

Northgate is approx 8 km for me too and since I regularly go to the PnP Hyper there it is not far at all. (Time for a bit of shopping Deebs?) There is also a Keg and "something or other" at the new Bellairs Centre which is just off Malibongwe too. I think it is below the Cape Town Fish Market? SO been there with a bud. Just throwing around another thought.

Ah decisions, decisions, guys. However, if we procrastinate too long it will look like we couldn't organise a you know what in a brewery. Perhaps MM can judge by the attendees that are coming what would suit us best??

Thanks for all the ideas everyone! Be great if we could have a few meets to test all the venues.

Looking through them, I think the choice is either a restaurant, or the clubhouse. Outside venues are susceptible to the weather, but both these provide should it rain.

I have felt we need to keep the venue within the area that was first decided, because I assume with the distances up there, folk have decided to come based on the area the meet is being held in? If this is not a factor, then we can vote on that too.

Cherries - shall we force a decision? As you are very correct, time is getting short.

I have put up a poll - one or the other. And ask everyone votes by this coming weekend please.

The clubhouse is available to all people living in our complex.
It has a fair sized, closed off, swimming pool area... for those who are concerned about small children.
It has a tennis court, looking rather wet at the moment.
There is a childrens playground and fairly nice sized green lawns to play on.
There are toilets in the clubhouse, a bar area (not stocked, you would have to bring your own). There are 3 very good sized long pub tables, each capable of seating about 10 people.
The outside patio area has about 8 smaller iron garden tables with chairs, a pizza oven and a braai area.

There is enough parking in the complex for visitors and there are permanent guards at the gates. The gates can only be opened by the guards.

If we used the clubhouse, we would have to bring our own stuff and picnic, or braai. Down side is that it might be a bit of work for some people. We could also just have a buffet luppa where each person brings a plate of eats.
Downside is, no ready meal, upside is, less cost.

Anyway, think about it. It is another possibility.
I am going to try to see if I can find a photo among my daughter's pictures.

My son might kill me for this, but here is a picture of the pool with the clubhouse in the background.

Do you have a good Mr Delivery in the area MM? Then those who wish to braai can do so, and those who wish to bring the Spur to the clubhouse can do so?

Unfortunately we wont be able to make it on the Saturday Joe. And I see BM changed the day to the Sunday taking into account it is Valentines Day on the Saturday.

Joe - with regard to your kid - the forum is all about family. It is no problem to bring your daughter!
