Hi

i came across this site while tryin to ID some goggas i've found... it would be great if someone here can help as google definitely has its limitations when searching for things... (when i said green caterpillar i didn't mean earthmoving equipment)...

i'll make this the last one for now... i still need to photograph the "green caterpillar" so i'll add that once i have... this one though is quite a cool looking beetle... about 2cm long (i think)...

Beautiful creatures you saw! Insects are some of the most intricate, colorful and interesting organism in nature.

That is the Turquoise Longhorn beetle. Larvae live inside wood and is seen as an agricultural pest. Adults feed on pollen, nectar, leaves and wood (see the mean jaws?).

Can anyone please tell me what on Earth type of gogga is this?

JenB, yours is the Giant Longhorn (Tithoes confinis). This is a nocturnal species, often attracted to lights. The adults feed on flowers and nectar, and hides under bark or in logs during the day.

The larvae burrow in to wood, and can cause severe damage to trees, often toppling huge trees by weakening the stem.

Was doing a trip report and was advised to post insects here as i would have a better chance of someone advising what they are.

I finally got an answer on your mystery Beetle, it is from the Cerambycidae family. I think I even have a genus for you: Phantasis. I can't tell for sure but I think it is P.carinata or P. gigantea. My entemologist friends said it was a great find!
