Date seen: 22 March
Province: Eastern Cape
Nearest town: East London
Locality: Suburban garden in Cambridge
Interesting observation notes, etc: It was found on/near our cycad and first thought it would be a Callioratis based on the pic here:
http://www.lepsoc.org.za/Endangered-Lep ... -moth.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
...and our limited knowledge

I have my doubts since that one has such limited distribution and is very rare...
I imagine it has laid many eggs on the plant and we have decided to watch closely for lavae which we will photograph.

Does anyone have a clue as to what it is?

Honours to the ID goes to Martin Kruger and Justin Bode and at the Lepidopterists society forum - thanks guys!

It's definitely a Callioratis but possibly an abraxes female (it's #17 on this pic):

Or it's #18 C. Boisduvalii (IMHO)

Its a confirmed abraxes and it turns out #18 is merely a female of #17 on that pic so Boisduvalii is a junior synonym.
